It’s something we have to think about when we move from PC to SC (Personal Computing to Social Computing). In these previous posts the theme is that for a collaborative, sharing, transparent, engaging and aware organisation we need more than bottom-up emergence. We also need a top-down shift and seriousness into this new way of working; with role-models, and a ...
mechanism can be applied directly to distribute it. An alternative model is based on treating knowledge as a public good and hence encouraging free sharing of knowledge. Expertise Management and World of Warcraft - Managing Technology ...
I came across a fascinating article concerning the automated construction of an “expertise database” that I think has some relevance for enterprise expertise management. The article, Automated Expertise Management, appeared in the January 24, 2005 Terra Nova Exploring Virtual World blog. It describes a database service called Thottbot.com that is designed for players of Blizzard’s World of Warcraft (WoW) gaming environment. The Thottbot database allows WoW players to seek out helpful information about various events, objects. and strategies that occur in World of Warcraft. The database is constructed (according ... market research, surveys and trends
knowledge management as an ecosystem
There were over 30 information professionals, and many were keen to know what enterprise 2.0 is all about, they had lots of questions. Most questions were about management buy-in, adoption, etc…these people want to take it on, but my presentation was an overview, so we didn’t have time to go over details of deploying enterprise 2.0. I did mention that management would like to hear case studies (success stories), and that open source virtually lets you do it for no cost. I started my presentation explaining how I came to be there presenting: - I participate (publish my thoughts/ideas/experiences/reviews/news, etc…) market research, surveys and trends

Worldwide enterprise software revenue is forecast to total $222.6 billion in 2009, reflecting a "flat" 0.3 percent growth rate from 2008 revenue of $221.9 billion, according to Gartner, Inc. WikiAnswers - Which is the best free Content Management System for ...
Why, any wiki software would work in this case. I tried to find out what software WikiAnswers uses, and the best I could do is find is WikiAnswers runs on custom "Wiki FAQs" software based on the system developed by the people behind Wikipedia. I read somewhere that Wikipedia runs a version of "Mediawiki" if that helps. The bottom line is, the future of knowledge management is decentralization: Rather than a select few "subject matter experts" and a convergence of technical communicators producing manuals, erratas and FAQs, the push is towards each member of the user base contributing information, ...
