HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A company spokesperson for the Special Metals plant in Huntington tells WSAZ.com the orange haze in the sky is a result of a crane malfunction. Company spokesperson Dwight Weber said there was a crane malfunction at the plant in an area where workers remove oxide from nickel-base alloys. Weber said some iron had a chemical reaction with a cleaning agent, which is what made the orange color. “The general belief is that it dissipated into the atmosphere,” Weber said.
