Leadership Theories and Studies

leadership theories and studies special research report Photo by
Leadership can be defined as a process by which one individual influences others toward the attainment of group or organizational goals. Three points about the definition of leadership should be emphasized. First, leadership is a social influence process. Leadership cannot exist without a leader and one or more followers. Second, leadership elicits voluntary action on the part of followers. The voluntary nature of compliance separates leadership from other types of influence based on formal authority. Finally, leadership results in followers' behavior that is purposeful and goal-directed in some sort of organized setting. ...
of Hungarian mythology. Four boys who did not know each other, three from Hungary and one from the United States, attended the Jamboree and would later meet to lead the program. Founder Béla H. Bánáthy , a junior officer in the Hungarian Army during World War II, served on the National Council of the Hungarian Scout Association and became the voluntary national director for youth leadership development. At the end of the war, he narrowly escaped Soviet capture and likely execution. After considerable personal trials he arrived in June 1951 in Monterey, California to teach at the Army Language School . Bánáthy became the Monterey ...

managers to be swept away by the novelty of outdoor experiential training and development programs. This often leads to misuse, failed expectations, and worse yet, training that is left in the training room. The problem says Nancy Gansneder–University of Virginia professor and board member of the National Society for Experiential Education (NSEE)–is that “people who have a much shorter view tend to want that one-day romp in the park to affect how a team is going to work together. That’s not going to happen. We have to invest an awful lot of time in it, and the payoff is down the road.” (Schetter, ... market research, surveys and trends
Leadership and Mythology #4: Sociology and Control « Active Garage
with the tribe being very practical and safely bringing the sun back from the eclipse through ritual drumming.  The Chief, Shaman, and members of the village saw the need for executing the ritual – cause and effect. The idea of not drumming is so terrifying simply talking about it could have serious repercussions. The Chief could land very hard on anyone foolish enough to talk about modifying, let alone abandoning, the ritual. This brings us to the third purpose of myth – social order – or more simply, sociology . As seen with the village sociology can tie very closely to the second purpose of myth, cosmology . This co-mingling ... market research, surveys and trends

Book Review: 'Drive:The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us'
I was invited to The Global Leadership Summit satellite site at Hope Church in Springfield, and Daniel Pink was one of the speakers. I was intrigued by his past as a speechwriter for the White House during the Clinton administration, his life in Washington, D.C., and his speech that day. What were your expectations of the book? Pink gave a great speech — interesting and almost heretical, considering today’s prevalent theories about management and personal motivation. I thought the book would expound on his theories and give a more profound and thorough analysis with some interesting case studies and examples thrown in. market trends, news research and surveys resources
An unforgettable week at the Army War College
Despite the havoc that responsibility and adulthood wreak on one's imagination, we all form an expectant image of an event or experience. Oftentimes we are right on the money and feel pretty smug about our ability to draw a good bead on something and hit it dead-on. There are times we miss by a mile and then there are the times when an event or experience exceeds one's expectations to a point that makes it hard to explain. My week at the U.S. Army War College, June 7-11, was just such an experience. When I learned I had made the cut for the 2010 National Security Seminar at the Army War College in Carlisle, Pa., ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

I am currently doing a research on development of youth leadership "How do young people think and develop about leadership?". And I am wondering what is the difference between youth leadership and professional leadership? how can we define youth leadership? what motivates youth to take a leadership role? and what is the connection between youth leadership and politics? If you can help me find out all of the answers in the form of academic research that would be great. Thank you Clarification of Question by ...

The classical theorists were the first group of early management theorists whose ideas set out what could be called the framework for many of our current ideas on management. The division of labour was concerned with breaking the total job into small, narrow and repetitive tasks. However, the most important influence on management before the 20th century was the industrial revolution. When products were manufactured at home, there was no need to plan the activities and organise people. However, when larger numbers of people manufactured products in factories, it was essential to coordinate and integrate their activities. Tries ...
