The Ohio Supreme Court has recently taken strong action against two co-owners in a company participating in an illegal “trust mill” operation (Columbus Bar Assn. v. Am. Family Prepaid Legal Corp., Slip Opinion No. 2009-Ohio-5336). The company and its two owners, Jeffrey and Stanley Norman, have been permanently barred from marketing or selling their trust products in Ohio after they were found to have committed “more than 3,800 acts of unauthorized law practice.” Unfortunately, Jeffrey and Stanley Norman are not the first unscrupulous characters to try to pull one over on the general public. Trust mills exist in every state, ...
in a military coup. In 2008, Thaksin was found guilty in a Thai court of corruption and sentenced in absentia to two years imprisonment. As of today, he remains a fugitive and has not served his sentence. Thaksin briefly owned Manchester City Football Club from 2007 to 2008. Following a prolonged series of violent political protests in Bangkok, Thailand from March to May 2010, a court in Bangkok issued a warrant for the arrest of Thaksin on terrorism charges. “Trust Mill” Operation Fined Nearly $6.4 Million
The civil penalty imposed by the Ohio Supreme Court on October 14, 2009 in the amount of $6,387,990, however, might just be a record. The Court’s harsh verdict stems, at least in part, from the aggravating circumstance that American Family Prepaid Legal Corporation and its associates were previously sued on the same grounds in 2002, the result of which was an agreement signed by those who are now parties to the current suit stating that they would cease and desist from engaging in the “selling, marketing and/or preparation of wills, living trusts, durable powers of attorney, deed transfers, and agreements for ... market research, surveys and trends

North Carolina Shuts Down Living Trust Scheme
A North Carolina judge has issued an injunction ordering American Family Prepaid Legal Corporation and Heritage Marketing and Insurance Services to stop bilking North Carolina seniors out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. A suit filed by North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper charged the company engaged in fraud to sell their products to the state's most vulnerable consumers. "These companies targeted seniors, using tricky sales practices to pressure them into spending their savings on living trusts and annuities they may not need," said Cooper. Ben Roach, Lawyer-Owned Prepaid Legal Service Plans
Two problems - lack of access to lawyers for most low and middle-income Americans, and the difficulty confronting many lawyers in generating consistent income - both can be improved by allowing lawyers to own and operate prepaid legal service plans.  Any regulatory concerns can be easily dealt with by bar associations and professional rules of conduct. Lawyers give lip service to their profession's responsibility to provide affordable legal services to all.1  However, even though they have numerous legal issues many low and middle-income Americans never use the services of a lawyer.  At the same ...

What exactly does a paralegal do? - Yahoo! Answers
While lawyers assume ultimate responsibility for legal work, they often delegate many of their tasks to paralegals. In fact, paralegals—also called legal assistants—are continuing to assume a growing range of tasks in legal offices and perform many of the same tasks as lawyers. Nevertheless, they are explicitly prohibited from carrying out duties considered to be the practice of law, such as setting legal fees, giving legal advice, and presenting cases in court. One of a paralegal’s most important tasks is helping lawyers prepare for closings, hearings, trials, and corporate meetings. Paralegals might investigate the facts of ...
Primerica ... Have you heard about them ? - Yahoo! Answers
Primerica's business model is ingenious. They take folks with virtually no education and make them pass a rather easy life insurance exam and have them represent themselves as financial advisers. Those people get paid to sell insurance, mortgage, and investment products. Once the representatives realize they can't make any "real" money doing this, the focus becomes recruiting. Recruiting more uneducated people to do the same, "duplicating" as they call it. The reason they recruit is not to get paid directly for recruiting (which is what makes it a legal business model), but to make commission overrides from the ...
