I didn't tell them last year that I had a spouse, but when it estimated it my return this year it increased when I said I had a spouse. They don't need "proof" of your relationship or his income. It is just a question in the tax return which asks if you have a spouse - you either do or you don't and it's a legal declaration so if you answer no when you do, then that's not a good idea.
