Management is not an easy job. Being a good employee is not always easy. Clients, customers, vendors, and co-workers are sometimes difficult to deal with. Government regulations are constantly changing. You've been promoted (congratulations) to a management position, but have received no management training.   These are just a few of the many challenges you face each day. You will survive. But instead of just surviving, what if you could turn those challenges into opportunities. Opportunities to create a productive, healthy workplace environment for management, staff, and your clients.   Foster Seminars and ...
by arguing that the proper referent for security should be the individual rather than the state. The United Nations Development Programme 's 1994 Human Development Report 1 is considered a milestone publication in the field of human security, with its argument that insuring "freedom ...
avoiding the legal landmines of 3 popular employee benefits
It’s a constant challenge for employers: Offering the benefits and incentives that employees desire without running into compliance problems with the feds. Here are three popular benefits that present a legal minefield for benefits managers — and ways companies can offer them without fear of repercussions. 1. Wellness programs and the ADA While every employer wants to promote healthier lifestyles for its employees, some wellness initiatives run afoul of the Americans with Disabilities Act — if the initiatives are constructed in a manner that makes it more difficult for certain employees to participate. Betancourt is wrong (and I don't mind saying it)
As the editor’s opinion in this matter is contrary to that of most people I have talked to, I was surprised by the article. Indeed, Ms. Betancourt may be the most disliked politician in Colombia today, so I thought it was pretty ballsy to write an op-ed piece defending her position. Our editor must be commended for looking at the other side of this matter. Alas, I have to disagree with him. Ms. Betancourt does not have a legal right to compensation from the Colombian government. There are two important reasons why this is so. First, Ms. Betancourt is directing her claim at the wrong target, as the state is not to ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Breaking News
WASHINGTON, Jul 19  (IPS)  - While speculation over a possible Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear facilities intensifies, at least one influential analyst here is calling on Washington to focus more on the likelihood of a new war breaking out between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah militia and how to prevent or contain it. In his eight-page ‘Contingency Planning Memorandum' released last week by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), U.S. Ambassador Daniel Kurtzer (ret.) argued that Israel was more likely than Hezbollah to initiative hostilities and that it could ”also use a conflict with Hezbollah as the ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Avoiding Language Landmines
Tiger Woods, who usually skirts controversy, generated plenty of bad press when he commented about his play at the Masters. Tiger said his tee-to-green play was fine. However, he felt, when he got to the greens he became "spastic." By choosing that word, he meant to convey that his putting during the tournament was shaky, unreliable, and out of control. Immediately, individuals who cope with that malady, and their relatives, accused Woods of being thoughtless and insensitive. That incident started me thinking about the common expressions we use daily which could become incendiary among certain groups: "a basket ...
What should I be aware of when planning a chairty fund-raiser ...
I am independently planning a charity event in May for three different charities. Our goal is to raise $100,000 mostly from donations online. I have a few concerns and questions about logistics... specifically regarding collecting the money then distributing it to our charities without causing any tax issues since the money will first be coming to me so I can then distribute. Because the money is being distributed to three charities, is there a way to handover write-off receipts without myself being a registered non-profit? Normally if I were only raising money for one charity, they'd handle most of the logistics but ...
