Lower income residents of Livingston County who need to go to court for a civil matter and cannot find an attorney now have a new resource to help them thanks to the Livingston County Circuit Courts. Judge Robert M. Travers and Circuit Clerk Judy Cremer today announced the opening of the new legal self-help center for residents of Livingston County. The center is internet-based and can be used by anyone with a computer that has access to the internet. Marion County courts announce opening of new legal self-help center
At a press conference Tuesday at the Marion County Courthouse, Judge George Lackey and Circuit Clerk Ronda Yates announced the opening of a new internet-based Marion County Legal Self-Help Center.  The legal self-help center was developed to provide accurate information on Illinois law to the growing number of people who must come to court and represent themselves.  Individuals using the self-help center will be able to access information about a wide variety of civil legal problems, including videos on going to court, court pleadings and information on other legal organizations. Washington D.C. - The Institute for Foreclosure Legal Assistance today announced it has awarded $6.5 million in grants to 27 legal-aid offices in 19 states and the District of Columbia. The grants are the first step in a multi-year program to bolster local groups nationwide who are assisting the growing legion of borrowers facing foreclosure. According to several sources, including Illinois Legal Aid and the Illinois Juvenile Court Act, minors under the age of 14 should not be left alone "for an unreasonable period of time without regard for the mental or physical health, safety or welfare of that minor." Defining that can be sticky. That's why the law leaves it that way. If an 8 year old is left alone for 10 minutes and there's a fire, the parents are screwed.
