employers and employees. In Canada, employment laws related to unionized workplaces are differentiated from those relating to particular individuals. In most countries however, no such distinction is made. However, there are two broad categories of labour law. First, collective labour law relates to the tripartite relationship between employee, employer and union. Second, individual labour law concerns employees' rights at work and through the contract for work. The labour movement has been instrumental in the enacting of laws protecting labour rights in the 19th and 20th centuries. Labour rights have been integral to the ...

Labour's fair demands in Pakistan - South Asia Citizens Web
There are only two days left before the Industrial Relations Act (IRA) 2008 expires and there is no sign of a new and more just labour law that the government has been promising and which should be enforceable from May 1. Since it is not possible to push a new bill through parliament in two days the government has only two options. It may have the proposed new legislation issued as an ordinance or take refuge under the oft-criticised subterfuge that with the lapse of IRA 2008 the Musharraf-made ordinance of 2002 will stand revived. Neither option will clear the government of the charge of treating labour with less than the ... market research, surveys and trends

Are industrial relations laws anti-union?
Unite, the union's recent annual conference held in Manchester on 31 May 2010, Unite's joint leader Tony Woodley called for what he described as "anti-union laws" to be repealed because "the right to strike is hanging by a thread". Clearly this is a reference to the recent litigation with BA when, first on 17 December 2009 and then on 17 May 2010, the High Court granted interim injunctions against Unite preventing industrial action. The 17 May decision was short-lived, however, as this was overturned by the Court of Appeal on 20 May 2010. So are the laws anti-union and is the right to strike hanging ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Can my employer paid everyone else overtime but me? | Ask MetaFilter
Everyone in my department at work (desktop publishing) is paid overtime except me (I'm salaried) and we all have the same job title and responsibilities. Is this legal? I used to be hourly but then was promoted to a salaried position about a year ago. Then around the beginning of 2008, my position was eliminated and I was placed back into my old department and given the same position as everyone else but I was never switched back to hourly. Then we got busy and I worked a lot of "overtime" that I never got paid for. Do I have to be paid hourly like everyone else since we all have the same position, and if so, am I entitled ...
