As People of North Carolina we denounce SB1070. We stand with the people of Arizona, in particular, immigrant communities, and the grassroots call to honor the dignity and human rights of all. SB1070, approved by Gov. Jan Brewer (R-AZ) on Friday, April 23 attacks immigrant communities by setting a precedent for vast human and civil rights violations through institutionalizing racial profiling and criminalization of immigrant workers. These laws are rooted in xenophobia and racism; they mandate racial profiling and are a direct attack on immigrant communities and communities of color. In North Carolina we have seen the effects ... market research, surveys and trends

LSC: LSC Updates: May 24, 2010
"In a civil justice system where you're five times more likely to prevail with representation than without it, access to justice requires access to quality legal services," said Assistant U.S. Attorney General Tony West in his commencement address at the University of California Hastings College of the Law on May 16. West's address was in large part a call to service for the graduates, who were reminded that a legal education "brings with it great responsibility: to reach out beyond the boundaries of our own comfort and security and to lead in ways both big and small." "Because when budgets ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
The Economy and Civil Legal Services | Brennan Center for Justice
this page provides nationwide evidence of the economic downturn’s impact on the ability of vulnerable individuals to obtain legal assistance through the nation’s civil legal aid programs.  A tremendous increase in the number of people in need of civil legal aid has occurred simultaneously with a crash in the amount of funding available to finance this assistance.  Though the recession began with a crisis in housing, it is no longer only foreclosure matters that are causing legal aid caseloads to skyrocket; as more and more people get laid off, see their debt come up for collection, and are forced to fall ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Tom Keith, who retired last year as Forsyth County district attorney, is working with MicroFunded Giving to help the Safe on Seven program that he created in 2005. William Keith, who is Tom Keith's second cousin, developed a financing model in which local businesses agree to have a percentage of all credit-card purchases go to the charities of their choice. Setting up the financing model and recruiting businesses to take part will take at least a month, Tom Keith said. market trends, news research and surveys resources
