Private Bar resumes legal aid work in Ont. & Sask. after rate hikes
The number of private-sector lawyers accepting legal aid work in Ontario and Saskatchewan shot up in 2007-2008, but legal aid revenues and spending remained static across Canada, according to a new national survey of legal aid. Statistics Canada disclosed in February that 9,773 private-sector lawyers did legal aid cases across Canada last year � an overall jump of nearly 6 percent (530 lawyers) from 2006 to 2007.
