LLM GUIDE - Executive LL.M. Programs: Offering Flexibility, Not ...
Part-time, executive degree programs are nothing new, but they still seem like a novelty to the legal profession. While there are already hundreds of Executive MBA programs for experienced, working professionals, only a handful of law schools have adopted a similar concept. "If I were to put a roomful of Boston attorneys and academics together, and asked how many of them had degrees that they earned part-time, let alone from non-traditional programs, few hands would go up," says Ian Pilarczyk, director of a new Executive LL.M. program at Boston University School of Law. FinAid | Student Loans
Federal law sets the maximum interest rates and fees that lenders may charge for federally-guaranteed loans. Nothing prevents a lender from charging lower fees. Many lenders offer a variety of student loan discounts to attract borrowers. Few students can afford to pay for college without some form of education financing. Two-thirds (65.6%) of 4-year undergraduate students graduated with a Bachelor's degree and some debt in 2007-08, and the average student loan debt among graduating seniors was $23,186 (excluding PLUS Loans but including Stafford, Perkins, state, college and private loans). The High Cost of Cheap Labor - Center for Immigration Studies
This study is one of the first to estimate the total impact of illegal immigration on the federal budget. Most previous studies have focused on the state and local level and have examined only costs or tax payments, but not both. Based on Census Bureau data, this study finds that, when all taxes paid (direct and indirect) and all costs are considered, illegal households created a net fiscal deficit at the federal level of more than $10 billion in 2002. We also estimate that, if there was an amnesty for illegal aliens, the net fiscal deficit would grow to nearly $29 billion. Among the findings: Households headed by ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Katie Couric's Notebook: Arizona Immigration Law
set to take effect next week, is really about enforcement -- whether state police can demand proof of someone's immigration status. The Justice Department will argue in court today that this power should remain in federal hands. But the debate has grown far beyond that question - and both sides tend toward hyperbole. CBS News reports tonight, for instance, that some of the law's supporters have exaggerated accounts of a crime wave along the border ... Yet opponents who compare Arizona officials to Hitler aren't helping either. People are fed up with the immigration system and want to see change. But real change ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
House swap likely to run afoul of tax regulations
Q: I am fed up with paying taxes to our greedy and burdensome governments who rob the masses. If I can find somebody I trust and we both don't have liens, can I sell my property for a minuscule amount and the second party sell his to me for a minuscule amount to reduce property taxes. In a year or less, we sell back to each other. Is this legal? A: I understand and feel your pain about having to pay taxes. However, if you go this route, you and your trusted friend may end up with a smaller place in which to live — namely, a prison cell. No, it is not at all legal. You are defrauding the government, and they could ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
