and you marked yes because you were excited to get into the system and started on your chosen career?  Looking back do you ever wish you would have marked NO?  In no other profession is there such a high turnover rate requiring so much forced or mandatory overtime on its personnel.  It was not uncommon for the entire third shift officers to be mandated to stay for the entire first shift 5 days a week making for an 80 hour work week.  40 plus hours of overtime a pay period was the normal not the unusual and after a while you began to hate telephone calls after 4:00 in the morning.  I always wondered what the effects of the daily ...
The concept of food miles originated in 1990 in the United Kingdom. It was conceived by Andrea Paxton, who wrote a research paper that used the term to describe the distance that food travels from the farm where it is produced on to the kitchen in which it is consumed. On average, food travels between 1,500 to every time that it is delivered to the consumer. The distance products travel from farms to end consumers is 25% farther in 2007 than it was in 1980. Some scholars believe that the increase is due to the globalization of trade; the focus of food supply bases into fewer, larger districts; drastic changes in delivery ...

[More:]I run a Helpdesk, actually a Computing Helpdesk. We answer calls for all sorts of issues that are not computing related, because that's just how we are, and because Certain Other Departments don't answer their phones 75% of the time, so people find our number and call us. Today, we referred a caller to the Library for what sounded like a citation question. I got email from the Library complaining because the question involved Word, and we should have been able to answer it. I #@#$$% freaking wish I had the spare time to get pissy because a call came to my department and interrupted my earth-shattering work. market research, surveys and trends
Work. Life. Policy. - MOMocrats™
MamaBee wondered: Wearing my manager hat, I bristle at the idea of government involvement in how I manage my employees.  How can government possibly understand the unique needs of my business and workers?  I’m all for legislating anti-discrimination and family policy — equal pay; affordable, high-quality childcare; and paid family and sick leave, for example.  But I’m having a hard time getting my mind around how the government can practically be involved with flexible work. I wonder how we can continue without government intervention. I’ve no doubt that MamaBee is a terrific manager but that’s my point: ... market research, surveys and trends

Mandatory Overtime | Principal Health News
Joseph Barnum* couldn't believe it. After working 24 years as a service technician for a communications company in Maryland, he was fired for having to pick up his kids after school. A single parent, Barnum had told his supervisors that he needed to retrieve his two small children from school every day by 6 p.m. At first, he says, his supervisors were willing to work with him. "But then they came up with the mandatory overtime policy," Barnum recalls. "And that's when things went haywire." In 1995 the company cut back its workforce by 15 percent and demanded that its employees be available on short ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Quick question for those of you with any knowledge of the subject: Is it possible (by possible I mean legal) for an employer to change the pay structure for an employee from salaried but eligible for overtime pay to a salaried but not eligible for overtime?
