“A basic purpose of this Association is to maintain intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the educational program and the athlete as an integral part of the student body and, by so doing, retain a clear line of demarcation between intercollegiate athletics and professional sports.”   -NCAA Bylaw 1.3.1 Amateurism, one of the NCAA’s guiding principles, is perhaps one of its most controversial.  In a time of lucrative television contracts, football’s profit-based BCS and players that leave school immediately after their last game to prepare for careers in professional sports, the NCAA nevertheless ...

Psst, wanna buy a major league team? Got $500M? - ...
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Got half a billion dollars? The Texas Rangers are set to go on the auction block next week after an unexpected snag in the team's bankruptcy plans. Don't call your banker just yet. Major League Baseball will decide who can participate in the auction based on some strict guidelines - including a $1.5 million deposit and an opening bid of more than $500 million. And the league still can reject the highest bidder and select the runner-up. Outside experts suggest the narrow limits are a clever maneuver to push through the long-delayed sale to MLB's preferred buyer, a group led by Hall ... market research, surveys and trends

The Scores Report – The National Sports Blog
He thinks the Heat are the front-runner for LeBron, but the Cavs, Knicks and the Bulls are still in it. He’s not hearing much about New Jersey. He said that if LeBron was going to go to the Bulls, Bosh would have gone with him, so Chicago’s chances seem slim. - He’s hearing that LeBron will sign a five- or six-year deal, which makes sense because he wants to lock in his monster salary before the next collective bargaining agreement. I’d say this reduces the Cavs’ chances because it seems unlikely that LeBron would want to commit that long to that roster. - He said the Knicks have jumped back into ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

The 20 Worst Athlete Decisions in History
Athletes are looked up to by children. Athletes are role models to adults with their work ethics. Athletes are supposed to be good people. The key word in that statement being supposed. Many athletes make stupid decisions off of the field. It affects their personal life and their athletic life. It also affects the way the people look at them. Look at how quickly some diehard Tiger Woods fans turned on him. The same goes for Michael Vick, his brother Marcus, Rae Carruth, Ben Roethlisberger, and many other athletes. Thanks for the read. Please comment on how the list was and who I missed. Thanks. Latrell Sprewell was a ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

How do i become a entertainment and sports attorney? - Yahoo! Answers
I am an attorney. However, I went to a top 15 school and had mediocre grades. I found the job market to be depressing. So much time, planning, and money went into undergraduate school, I had a 4.0 GPA, and scored above the 95th percentile on the LSAT. I naively thought going to a top school their would be plenty of lucrative and exciting jobs waiting for me and I would be set to have a good quality of life. I remember sending out 300 letters one time and getting no positive response, either they said some nonsense about you are great, you have good accomplishments, but at this time we cannot offer you a position, we will keep ...
