A recent study on the music consumption habits of today’s youth shows that most of them download music illegally. However, music is more popular than ever and 80 percent of the participants indicate that they would pay for a legal filesharing service, if only one was available. Last week, the Digital Music News Research Group released its quarterly P2P report. The for-pay report covers the fourth quarter of 2007, but a publicly available excerpt breaks down the data for the period between September 2006 and September 2007. everyone knows the story of the rise and fall of Napster, but my question is are P2P networks (i.e. limewire, kazza) actually illegal. there are stories of people getting sued everyday for downloading music and movies but yet millions still do it on a daily basis. research shows that companies bent on making profits cannot break copyright laws, whereas individuals can make copies of cds and movies they have purchased, for friends and family as long as no monetary gain is received. individuals argue that, that is what a P2P network does, the law does not specify whether or not we have to list our "friends or family" or even know ...
I have to admit it, I'm new to the mp3 game, heck I didn't leave my room for a week when the Xbox 360 came out. I just got an iPod Nano and it came with a 25 dollar itunes card. I downloaded itunes and I haven't used it yet. The problem is that I also decided to download limewire. I haven't downloaded limewire yet ,but I want to know if it is illegal.
