NZ Aid to increase as it targets more private sector engagement
Samoa has one of the better records in the Pacific when it comes to aid money, a key figure in the New Zealand Agency for International Development (NZAID) said. So much so New Zealand aid to Samoa during the 2009-2010 financial year hit a record NZ$20million (T$34.4m). The figure does not include NZ$10million (T$17m) worth of assistance for last September’s tsunami. Pacific non-government organisations say they want a new partnership on development aid with Australia. Pacific Civil Society representatives at the Lowy conference in Sydney say the region will not be able to achieve the Millennium Development Goals if the civil society organisations that do the bulk of the work with the poor are continued to be ignored.
