St. John's University taps sage for Staten Island campus
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Its enrollment slumping, St. John's University is turning to a longtime education professional to reinvigorate the school's Staten Island branch. Dr. Jerrold Ross has been named academic vice president for the Grymes Hill campus, where, he said, incoming freshman enrollment has dropped from about 600 a decade ago to 300 for September's new class. Overall enrollment for the 2009-10 school year was 1,558 students (1,349 undergraduates and 209 graduate candidates), said Dominic Scianna, a St. John's spokesman.
