Question: Effectively managing people
I am looking for any published research on how many people can one supervisor/manager effectively manage. I recognize that the work environment would influence the answer, so for the sake of this question, we are in a service industry and the manager has 12-15 direct reports from multiple disciplines. My instinct is that she needs at least an assistant manager, maybe two. However, some research supporting (or refuting) this position would be helpful. Thanks in advance!
