Marine finfish aquaculture production in the Asia-Pacific region has grown an average of 10% by volume and 4% by value per year over the last decade. Much of this increasing production is attributable to the expanding culture of high-valued marine carnivorous species such as groupers. This development has escalated due to the breakthrough and improvements in hatchery production and husbandry of a range of species including groupers, snappers, cobia, pompano, and threadfin. In addition, many regional governments have now included marine finfish aquaculture development in their fisheries programs to target export markets. The ...
aquaculture to create balanced systems for environment remediation (biomitigation), economic stability (improved output, lower cost, product diversification and risk reduction) and social acceptability (better management practices). 1 Selecting appropriate species and sizing the various populations to provide necessary ecosystem functions allows the biological and chemical processes involved to achieve a stable balance, mutually benefiting the organisms and improving ecosystem health . The paper examines the influence of FDI on manufact ring growth of Singapore in a panel data sample of 14 manufacturing industries over 30 years stretching from 1975 to 2004. By controlling for unobserved industry characteristics and time effects, we find a positive contemporaneous effect of FDI on the output growth of Singapore manufacturing industries where 1 percent increase in FDI tends to increase manufacturing output growth by nearly 0.4 percent. We also observed positive impact of FDI on manufacturing output growth using Arellano-Bond GMM estimator that controls for the endogeneity problems in the estimation. How Management Practices Differ Across Firms and Countries, Bryan ...
The paper is mis-titled, but excellent nonetheless.  Its main mission is to measure management practices, then describe how they vary - and they get a lot further than you'd expect. Measurement.  Bloom and van Reenen ran a massive "double-blind" survey of thousands of firms in 17 countries.  As they explain: One part of this double-blind technique is that managers are not told they are being scored or shown the scoring grid. They are only told they are being "interviewed about management practices." To do this, we used open questions in the survey. For example, on the first ... market research, surveys and trends

Water Use in Florida, 2005 and Trends 1950-2005
Water is among Floridas most valued resources. The State has more than 1,700 streams and rivers, 7,800 freshwater lakes, 700 springs, 11 million acres of wetlands, and underlying aquifers yielding quantities of freshwater necessary for both human and environmental needs (Fernald and Purdum, 1998). Although renewable, these water resources are finite, and continued growth in population, tourism, and agriculture will place increased demands on these water supplies. The permanent population of Florida in 2005 totaled 17.9 million, ranking fourth in the Nation (University of Florida, 2006); nearly 86 million tourists visited the ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Has regulation or nature fueled rebound of crabs?
Maryland officials in April forecast the comeback of the blue crab, attributing it to better management practices they hope will be reflected in a similar restoration plan for Chesapeake Bay oysters. The blue crab population increased by 60 percent from last year, according to a winter survey, and at 658 million was at its highest level since 1997. Last year, the survey estimated 400 million crabs wintered in the bay. Now some watermen say the summer harvest may be bearing out the rosy predictions. "It's been looking pretty good. It's possibly as good a year in 55 years" of crabbing, Chesapeake ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
