in order to direct its behavior toward a specific action. This practice is common to politics and business and can facilitate the approval or disapproval of or indifference to a person, policy, or product. The ethical use of crowd manipulation is debatable and depends on such factors as the intention of and the means used by the manipulator, as well as the ends achieved. Crowd manipulation differs from propaganda although they may reinforce one another to produce a desired result. If propaganda is “the consistent, enduring effort to create or shape events to influence the relations of the public to an enterprise, idea or group”, ...
What I Saw in America: Sensus Communis and Natural Law
As requested by several, here is a copy of the presentation that I delivered in Princeton. Half is a critique of the view that the "Natural Rights" founding of America was as central as is often believed, and is as praiseworthy as most at the conference held; the second half was a recommendation to consider the "Natural Law" critique of "Natural Rights" thinking that does not resort to the very kind of Cartesian/Kantian rationalist abstraction (often stripped bare of sociological and strongly prudential consideration), of the sort that one tends to find in the "New Natural Law" thinking. ... market research, surveys and trends
PLoS ONE: Denial of Risk Behavior Does Not Exclude Asymptomatic ...
The Centers for Disease Control recommend screening for asymptomatic sexually transmitted infection (STI) among HIV-infected men when there is self-report of unprotected anal-receptive exposure . The study goals were: (1) to estimate the validity and usefulness for screening policies of self-reported unprotected anal-receptive exposure as a risk indicator for asymptomatic anorectal infection with Neisseria gonorrhoeae (GC) and/or Chlamydia trachomatis (CT). (2) to estimate the number of infections that would be missed if anal diagnostic assays were not performed among patients who denied unprotected anorectal exposure in the ... market research, surveys and trends

Key Findings - The Graduate Center, CUNY
The first area of inquiry in ARIS 2001 concerns the response of American adults to the question: "What is your religion, if any?" This question generated more than a hundred different categories of response, which we classified into the sixty-five categories shown in Exhibit 1 below. In 1990, ninety percent of the adult population identified with one or another religion group. In 2001, such identification has dropped to eighty-one percent. Where possible, every effort was made to re-create the categories respondents offered to the nearly identical question as in the NSRI 1990 survey. As is readily apparent from the ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

To Data Mine or Not to Data Mine in the Fight Against Terrorism
Every nation in the world is well within its rights to use whatever legitimate tools they have at hand, including data mining, to protect its citizens from terrorism. That was at least the premise with which I approached and accepted the invitation to participate in a 2-day conference titled: Data Mining and Human Rights in the Fight Against Terrorism . It was held in connection with DETECTER, a research project undertaken by the European Union focusing on the ethical and legal ramifications of the use of various detection and surveillance technologies in counter-terrorist efforts. The project is being carried out by a ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Obama's “Mongrel” Statement: A Manifestation of Strategy and Indifference
In the last few weeks much discussion regarding a unique matter involving race has surfaced within the African-American community. Such is the case, as President Barack Obama’s appearance on the daytime talk show, “ The View” , in which he classified African Americans as a “mongrel people” has provoked feelings of displeasure among some members of the group. Obama’s characterization of Americans of African descent as “mongrels”, germinated in response to a question spawning from the show’s executive producer and co-host Barbara Walters, in which the Head of State was asked to expound upon an issue regarding his ethnicity. ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

of individuals, while the other disciplines rely more heavily on field studies and historical methods for extracting descriptive generalizations. In practice, however, there is quite a lot of cross-fertilization that takes place among the various fields. Psychology differs from biology and neuroscience in that it is primarily concerned with the interaction of mental processes and behavior, and of the overall processes of a system, and not simply the biological or neural processes themselves, though the subfield of neuropsychology combines the study of the actual neural processes with the study of the mental effects they have ...
