The British Chinese community is the largest in Europe and thought to be the oldest Chinese community in Western Europe if not in Europe, with the first Chinese coming from the ports of Tianjin and Shanghai in the early 19th century, many thousands of whom settled in port cities such as Liverpool in 1804 and earlier. Today, many Chinese families and communities have been in Britain for several generations. These communities have an active ethnic life with many activities and support networks for members, but have also integrated into the British community at large. Compared to most ethnic minorities in the UK the Chinese are ...
A Libertarian Counterpoint on Naomi Klein - Hit & Run : Reason ...
(somewhat unrelated) Question - why have liberals never embraced federalism? It seems like a great way for them to implement their ideas in some states, to "show others that it works", while not having to deal with all the rubes in the rest of the country. I'm asking mainly because i'm sure Naomi's solution to all these problems is more (benevolent aka liberal) federal govt involvement. This is precisely what a Chicago Law and Economics (Coasean) judge would do. The fishermen are "socially inefficient." They got no "growth." Away with their land! They may come back in the reformed ... market research, surveys and trends
Wonko's World » Blog Archive » More threats from the Deman mob
Apologies to those who would have like to continue commenting on the post about Dr Suresh Deman, the vexatious litigator who has been banned from taking legal action in England, Scotland and Wales after launching a string of spurious racial discrimination cases against academic institutions. Although their comments were automatically blacklisted, the number of abusive, threatening and racist comments I was receiving from the Deman mob was getting beyond a joke. So far I have been called a white supremecist, a racist ignorant, a zionist Labour mafia collaborator, dozy, sexist, a paid harasser or stalker, a firebrand racist, a ... market research, surveys and trends

Australia: jobs decline amid signs of economic downturn
Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) labour force figures for September showed the official unemployment rate climbed for the first time in five months to 5.1 percent, up from 5.0 percent in August. Significantly, the data also revealed a loss of jobs—25,900 full-time and 16,500 part-time. The total number of people in work fell by 42,300 to 10.022 million, with the largest drop of 25,600 in Victoria. The rise in unemployment would have been higher except for a decline in the number of people officially looking for work. The participation rate fell to 64.5 percent from 64.8 percent in August. In all, the September result was ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Stiglitz's view on Asia
the 2001 Nobel Laureate  for Economics, Joseph Stiglitz, professor of economics, Columbia University, says “the big lesson of this crisis is that despite all the changes in the last few centuries, our complex financial sector was still dependent on trust. When trust broke down, our financial system froze.”   In his visit to Asia a few months back, Stiglitz sat down with The Asset to share his views on how China and Asia could avoid the  mistakes in the West by having a strong set of  regulations to foster trust.     Stiglitz also discusses how he sees China and Asia developing, the ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
