When physicians look to protect their patients from medical identity theft, they may want to start by examining their office staff. That's because, while patients may try to use another person's identity fraudulently to receive medical care, many thefts happen when a hospital, clinic or practice employee sells patient information to organized crime or gang leaders, experts said. Then the information is used to conduct fake billing or obtain goods such as wheelchairs and prescription drugs to sell on the black market, said Pam Dixon, executive director of the World Privacy Forum, a nonprofit research and consumer ...

Comment: Such is this mob rule called 'democracy' | Minivan News
The freedom to think, which we Maldivians claimed for ourselves by ousting a dictatorial government and replacing it with a ‘democratic’ one, appears to have rendered us incapable of rational thought. There appears not a single principle that is not up for auction in the market of ‘public opinion’. Everything from our faith to our humanity carry with them a political price tag. At the helm is a government which oscillates so wildly between the political right and the left that any keen observer would suffer more repetitive strain injury to the neck than a spectator at a Wimbledon tennis final. Take for instance the decisions by ... market research, surveys and trends

UWM Research Profile Magazine - Sensors of Security
New technology could provide real-time detection of contamination within a city's water distribution system. If a contaminant were spilled into Lake Michigan, chances are that it would either be too diluted to do any harm or be detected before it reached Milwaukees drinking water. But what if it were introduced within the city, directly into the distribution system? Using traditional methods, finding the source of such an introduction would be nearly impossible. By the time water samples were collected throughout the system and laboratory tests were ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
The Inside Job - Money (
It would appear that Michigan, the state with the highest unemployment rate in the nation, could have a higher unemployment rate were it not for its dwindling workforce. Remaining US troops still face danger in Iraq
BAGHDAD — Lt. Ryan Alexander stands thigh-deep in a dark grove of reeds and palm trees, hunting for rockets. Officially, the U.S. combat role in Iraq is ending this month, but Alexander and his platoon are under orders to keep insurgents from using the south Baghdad field as a hiding place for Katyushas. "We're going to be doing this as long as they tell us," Alexander said in a near-whisper in the steamy pre-dawn air, his machine gun slung over his shoulder. Behind him, Iraqi Lt. Wassan Fadah Hussein had his handgun out and ready for action. In the near distance came a gunshot. "Sounded like a little ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Kelly says Notre Dame depth chart still in flux
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- With at least one position battle at Notre Dame, evidently there is a winner. A hyperextended knee has Anthony McDonald "doubtful" for the season opener against Purdue, so Carlo Calabrese seemingly has inside linebacker duties sewn up for the next 10 days or so. Other than that? Uncertainty abounds, at least in the way Irish coach Brian Kelly framed it at his first weekly press conference. Glen Ellyn's Chris Watt is pushing the seemingly immovable Chris Stewart at left guard. Cierre Wood, not Jonas Gray, was the No. 2 tailback and might even start ahead of Armando Allen. Preventing frozen pipes | Ask MetaFilter
Suppose I live in a city where it rarely freezes (say, Portland, Oregon), yet it's predicted that we'll soon have three+ days of subfreezing temps (as in, not even rising above 32). Yet I'm out of town now, and will be for all the drama. I'm worried about the pipes in our 100-year-old house. We have lots of stuff in the basement. I have a friend with a key. Should I ask her to: 1.) leave a slow drip from all the faucets & the shower? The two outdoor faucets too? or 2.) shut off our water valve completely, and run out as much water as possible from all our faucets? Or something else? We left the thermostat at ...
