A fundamental principle of economics with which Adam Smith begins The Wealth of Nations is the division of labor. Some firms, however, have been pursuing a practice called job rotation, which assigns each worker not to a single and specific task but to a set of several tasks among which he or she rotates with some frequency. We examine the practice of job rotation as a serious alternative to specialization, with three objectives. The first is to consider current and historical examples of job rotation, in addition to those in Japanese firms, in order to examine the variety of contexts in which job rotation has been practiced. ...
The term also refers to the interaction between society's complex infrastructures and human behaviour. In this sense, society itself, and most of its substructures, are complex sociotechnical systems. The term sociotechnical systems was coined in the 1960s by Eric Trist and Fred Emery , who were working as consultants at the Tavistock Institute in London . Sociotechnical systems theory is theory about the social aspects of people and society and technical aspects of organizational structure and processes. Here, technical does not imply technology. "Technical" was a term used in those times to refer to structure and ...

Windows Fanatics
by David Welsh and Theresa Welsh takes you back to the largely unknown origins of personal computing. Personal computers grew out of a hobbyist movement in the 1970s, as some began experimenting with the new microchips, building their own computers. Kit computers appeared, available from small mail order companies, but the computer that brought a wider audience to personal computing was the TRS-80 Model I, introduced by Tandy Corporation in August 1977. It was the first complete mass market, off-the-shelf microcomputer that anyone could buy for $599.95. And it was available at 3500 Radio Shack stores nationwide. How the Government Measures Unemployment
When workers are unemployed, they, their families, and the country as a whole lose. Workers and their families lose wages, and the country loses the goods or services that could have been produced. In addition, the purchasing power of these workers is lost, which can lead to unemployment for yet other workers. To know about unemployment—the extent and nature of the problem—requires information. How many people are unemployed? How did they become unemployed? How long have they been unemployed? Are their numbers growing or declining? Are they men or women? Are they young or old? Are they white or black or of ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Casey Coleman And Mike Quade Both Get First Wins; Cubs Blow Out Nationals
But for today, we can note that Mike Quade accomplished something that Lou Piniella did not -- win his first game as Cubs manager. The first game of the 2007 season, Lou's first as Cubs skipper, was a 5-1 loss to the Reds in Cincinnati. Just short of six months later, the Cubs returned to Cincinnati in triumph, clinching the NL Central title there. Last night's game, though all it did was move the Cubs from 21.5 to 20.5 games behind the Reds , was enjoyable nevertheless. A five-run outburst in the third inning off an old Cubs nemesis, Livan Hernandez , was all they'd need. It was highlighted by Blake DeWitt ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Waiting on Stephen Strasburg
It was fitting the Washington Nationals' only victory during this past weekend's series came in the second game in Stephen Strasburg's third start since coming off the disabled list. At least the Nationals were able to take away some good news in a series in which they had to battle Roy Halladay on Friday and then Roy Oswalt yesterday. Strasburg gave up just one run and two hits over 4 1/3 innings in his start on Saturday before leaving unexpectedly with discomfort in the flexor tendon in his right forearm. He was scheduled to have an MRI exam yesterday. There was considerable speculation Strasburg would be done ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Do you think job rotation is a good method to use for developing ...
Absolutely! We use teams to share the work where I am and each individual brings certain skills to the table. Each also gets an opportunity to lead a project. In some other lines of work, it is good to do job rotation to break monotony of tedious job work, and to reduce complacency and accidents. The more you know about why your company does what it does, the better equipped your employees are to do the tasks at hand. 2 years ago 100% 4 Votes There are currently no comments for this question. * You must be logged into Answers to add comments.
