Seeking company information is the most common form of business research. It may involve obtaining a telephone number to make a consumer purchase or complaint, retrieving financial data to decide whether or not to invest in or do business with a company, or preparing for a job interview. The amount of information that you will be able to find will vary greatly. A wealth of information is available on public companies. (See also Core Competencies in Finance/Investment for additional sources of information on public companies, particularly if you are seeking investment information.) Conversely, it will be more difficult to find ...

This stunning book boldly and eloquently trounces several “givens” America’s business leaders have been feeding us for the past two decades. First off, Hamel and Prahalad see America’s manufacturing decline as anything but inevitable and corporate downsizing as anything but responsible management. What is also strangely refreshing is the authors’ gushing yet well-reasoned praise for Japanese firms, which in the year 2001 gives the book yet another, though perhaps unintentional, contrarian edge. Can’t wait to hear their take on the Ciscos, Nortels, Lucents and Amazons of the last seven years. ... market research, surveys and trends
POWER PLAYS: How the Utility Empire can Strike Back!
It was a story about how the forces of creative destruction were converging to ‘steal the copper from the wires’ to turn it into gold from customer aggregation, energy management and demand response, cleantech gadgets and networks, and the feel good bonus of solar and wind renewable energy supply. The forces of disruptive technology are at work today reinventing the energy future. This is not one contest but a series of battles that seek control over the gateway to customers.  Because few players have the ability to take on Goliath directly they will sling rocks at his ankles not his head—at least for a while.  The result will ... market research, surveys and trends

bizzXceleration: Performance, Value and Profit: November 2007 Archives
And while we're on the subject of tolling bells, Thanksgiving and all the little details that make life interesting this collection of business related readings has some real highlights. The prior WRFest posting sketched the general environment - not positive and lots of supposed "suprises" coming out of the woodwork. So the question remains who's going to do what ? In particular all those companies that though the good times would roll and bought back their shares are now experiencing a rapidly growing exposure to profit and cash flow problems. If you read nothing else read the excerpt from the WSJ on that (and also ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

BHP's Canadian play gets the thumbs down
The Australian investment community has delivered its verdict on BHP Billiton's $US40 billion ($44 billion) bid for Canadian Potash Corp - and it is not particularly favourable. Investment banks were not prepared to put a sell on BHP - that's a public relations no-go zone. Instead, several advised their clients to favour Rio Tinto instead. It's not that they have a particular problem with Potash. They don't dispute that the long-term outlook for fertiliser demand is favourable, given the rising requirements of China and India for turbo-charged food production. It is also pretty clear the dynamics of this ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

What are Apple's core competences? | LinkedIn Answers | LinkedIn
Apple's core competences for me are their Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) process and Marketing Mix (Product, Price, Promotion and Placement). They master these two disciplines as no other techy company out there. Your statements provide strong evidence for it because they are both addressed by these two disciplines. For me these two competences are the money making ones! Procter & Gamble (P&G) is also another reference when talking about PLM and Marketing Mix.
