OpsMgr servers that are deployed across a firewall have special considerations that must be taken into account. Port 5723, the default port for OpsMgr communications, must specifically be opened on a firewall to allow OpsMgr to communicate across it. market research, surveys and trends

It’s a known fact that maintaining a complex, cross platform information technology architecture is not a task for the timid. Between staying current with the never-ending update cycle to exploring new features in the latest software releases, simply keeping an environment running takes time, effort and talent. On top of that, many IT groups need to ensure that all IT services stay available on a 24/7 basis and meet strict service level agreements, necessitating the need for a comprehensive end-to-end service management solution that can track individual SLAs, notify administrators when a server or service goes awry and provide ... market research, surveys and trends

Virtualization drives systems management trends
Data centers are growing. There are more applications, more services and more users to service than ever before. At the same time, administrators are expected to provision IT resources more quickly – especially virtual resources – and ensure the availability of those resources as needs change. It's a difficult balancing act that simply cannot be handled manually, so data centers are adopting some form of systems management to gain insight, facilitate increased automation and support more intelligent (and cost-effective) decisions. But the systems management landscape is changing as tools evolve and become more ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Need help with justification for Microsoft Operations Manager ...
I am curious if anyone has experience building a successful case for Microsoft Operations Manager? I have created the ground work and discussed the value of management packs and the ability to quickly and proactively identify specific system events. The problem is that the executives need to see hard dollar savings out of the gate. One of the responses that I am getting is that we have not had an outage in a long time so what is the value? We have 40+ production servers. Thank you kindly. posted December 20, 2007 in Enterprise Software | Closed Share This How can I help you? Just ask me. jhusband at microsoft dot com. ...
Looking for good system monitoring / task scheduling software ...
Looking for good system monitoring / task scheduling software to run on Windows for server monitoring as well as running custom scripts for keeping track application specific metrics. Right now I am using a hand-rolled solution which runs scripts and updates logs / sends emails on output. It's nice because it is easy to add new custom tasks and metrics, but I am looking to migrate the functionality into something a little more robust, possibly with the ability to keep track of tasks running on multiple machines, etc. The commercial route would be System Center Operations Manager...
