has focused on writing for a variety of purposes in a rhetorical situation.  Although audience, context, and writing situation are important, a writer’s purpose should be and has always been the focal point of the sequence of assignments.  The Prentice Hall Guide begins with the purposes of observing and remembering, which are personally important for the writer.  It then turns to more reader-based, academic purposes of critical reading, expository writing, and argumentative writing.  Each chapter in this sequence is self-contained with introductions, guidelines, professional and student ...
Culturally and linguistically, the origins of Italian history can be traced back to the 9th century BC, when earliest accounts date the presence of Italic tribes in modern central Italy. Linguistically they are divided into Oscans , Umbrians and Latins . Later the Latin culture became dominant, as Rome emerged as the dominant city around 350 BC. Other pre-Roman civilizations include Magna Graecia in Southern Italy and the earlier Etruscan civilization , which flourished between 900 and 100 BC in the Center North. After the Roman Republic and Empire dominated this part of the world for many centuries, came an Italy whose people ...

California and the Future of Energy
Thank you, Dean Olian, for that introduction, and thank you to the Anderson Forecast for allowing me to be here this morning. You know, last week I was at another conference: the Clinton Global Initiative in New York. The conference generated considerable buzz—and I’m not referring to Chris Wallace’s interview with President Clinton. But rather, I’m referring to the $7.3 billion in commitments taken in by this year’s participants, to solve pressing global problems, $3 billion of that amount was pledged by one man: Sir Richard Branson—the British entrepreneur who, even more than Madonna, made the Virgin brand famous. Over 10 ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

But the 24-year-old driver of the No. 18 Toyota Tundra for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series knows nothing can really prepare him for his first NASCAR start at the famous Darlington Raceway - a place that opened in 1950. Ickler has been to one NASCAR event at the track nicknamed "The Lady in Black" - the NASCAR Nationwide Series race won by Denny Hamlin earlier this year. However, he knows the view from the stands is completely different than the view he'll get from the driver's seat of his Toyota when he takes the green flag in Saturday night's Too Tough To Tame 200 ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

first utility - are they pushing out 2 lots of data - the first ...
Has anyone noticed something funny about the data from first utility ? - On my account they seem to be publishing the usage data approximately once per day (fair enough). If I look at the usage data immediately after publication around 1am I see one graph. (now the shape of this graph does look familiar - can't seem to find it in any advertising screenshots now, so maybe this is a false memory by me) If I come back in the morning I see something completely different ! I thought it was just me - so the next time I was up at that time I grabbed screenshots and the raw usage data, and I'm definitely correct. ...
What is the psychology behind my math inabilities? - Yahoo! Answers
I am 27 and often have a hard time with doing basic math in my head. However, I completed grade 12 math and have no problem with advanced mathematical concepts, algebra, etc... Here are a few observations: - when working on paper I still use a kind of counting system I invented in elementary school with tick-marks for certain numbers... or often count on my fingers - I seem to have the most problems with the "middle numbers" - that is, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. For example I find 6+7 hard to do in my head, but 9+6 is easy. - very often, I do things in two steps. for example, when calculating 6+8, in my head I say "6+6 is 12", then count ...
