and the solid business principles he promoted in his lengthy career. Drucker wasn't just a thought leader in management, he was arguably the first person to study and define the business of management. In Drucker's book " The Effective Executive ," he outlines eight basic principals that define a good executive. The book is quite short at 200 pages, and the principles are deceptively simple. But it's a testament to Drucker's insight that it remains the definitive guide to good management even 40 years after its publication. knowledge is a tool. This difference is not yet well distinguished in the subject matter literature. They both are strongly interdisciplinary, involving economists, computer scientists, software engineers, mathematicians, chemists, physicists, as well as cognitivists, psychologists and sociologists. Various observers describe today's global economy as one in transition to a "knowledge economy", as an extension of an " information society ". The transition requires that the rules and practices that determined success in the industrial economy need rewriting in an interconnected, globalized economy where ...
Stumbling Towards Innovation » Blog Archive » Peter Drucker, “The ...
I mentioned that I had read this book over the weekend so I thought I’d make a blog post about it…a concise and less than 1 hour blog post. First of all Drucker wrote the book in 1965 when the knowledge workers were beginning to make their move on the corporate landscape.  I wanted to point out that although the book is titled towards the “executive” really this encompasses all knowledge workers.  At the time the idea of an engineer, someone not directly spending time actually building a product in a manufacturing setting, was somewhat new.  Drucker was the first to coin the term “knowledge ... market research, surveys and trends
Dorin Radu: Financial Regulation - A Common Sense Solution
There are days when complicated issues come on display in a different light, and, suddenly, they look much simpler. It recently occurred to me that the problem with the financial industry may not be residing in the behavior of its players, nor in the ways it functions; it has more to do with the commercial attributes of its products. I was always troubled by the terminology used in the financial industry. And, I am sure, I am not alone. When I hear bankers using a term like “product” my skin wrinkles, because I know that they do it just to disguise the real nature of the item that is being sold, and the risk ... market research, surveys and trends

The 2007 Congressional Pig Book - Citizens Against Government Waste:
has not been this little since 1999, as only two of the 11 appropriations bills were enacted by Congress and the remaining nine were subject to a moratorium on earmarks. There are no indoor rainforests, National Peanut Festivals, mariachi music grants, or teapot museums to be found. This year’s Pig Book breaks a run of seven consecutive years of record dollar amounts of pork, culminating in $29 billion in the 2006 Congressional Pig Book. This lesser barrel of pork can be attributed to the efforts of Senators Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) and Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), who prevented the enactment of nine ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Will the real Imam Rauf please stand up?
Initially the controversy over building a $100-million Muslim community center and mosque two blocks from Ground Zero was about location, location, location. Increasingly, however, attention has turned to the 61-year-old Sufi imam behind the project. Depending on who you ask, Rauf -- currently in the Middle East as part of a U.S.-funded outreach program to the Muslim world -- is a dedicated interfaith activist, a stealth apologist for Islamist terrorism, or something else. Those looking to defend Rauf in Jewish circles have a new card to play: It turns out that the imam delivered a moving speech at the 2003 memorial service held ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
WEALTH MANAGER-Building a brand can help build the book
TORONTO, Aug 12 (Reuters) - Being average doesn't cut the mustard with investors these days, making it more important than ever for financial advisers to tell the world what makes them special. In short, building a brand is crucial at a time when financial advice has become just another commodity. "If you are average and are going after an average lot of people and hoping that something will stick, you are not going to find the referral base," said Jeff Malcolm, president of AdvisorBranding, which focuses on spurring growth through marketing. The most common way for an adviser to build his or her book is to go out ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
