Value Creation - the New Core Competency for Growth-Minded Companies
If you're competing on price, you'll never achieve maximum profitability. It is critical to make value creation everyone's job. Are you sure that you're providing the value your customers bought into? Even if your answer is an emphatic yes, you might want to take a closer look into your customer's world. Britney Spears, the one-time teen idol, seems to be at the end of her pop star singing career. So far, Britney has not been able to make the transition from pop to legitimate star. Like any nacient corporate brand, Britney needs to transition out of brand adolecence. It is time to grow up, or fade away. Most pop idols have an expiration date. Britney appears to be well past her's. Her brand has shifted away from a focus on her singing capabilities. She's become fodder for the celebrity tabloids, and the butt of jokes on late night TV. She appears to have not been told that her career is over and that her brand ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Qualcomm Then and Now—Will the Next 25 Be as Innovative as the Last 25?
It has been 25 years since seven former Linkabit employees met at Irwin Jacobs’ La Jolla home and founded a startup company to provide digital communications services. They saw their venture at the time in terms of QUALity COMMunications, and agreed to call the new company Qualcomm. Since its beginnings in July 1985, Qualcomm has become a global pioneer in digital wireless technologies—especially with its proprietary Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) innovation in cellular communications—the world’s biggest mobile chipset provider, an $11 billion technology giant, and the largest company in San Diego. What does core competency mean's in a company or in a puchasers ...
The concept of core competencies was developed in the management field. C.K. Prahalad and Gary Hamel introduced the concept in a 1990 Harvard Business Review article. I wrote that a core competency is "an area of specialized expertise that is the result of harmonizing complex streams of technology and work activity." As an example they gave Honda's expertise in engines. Honda was able to exploit this core competency to develop a variety of quality products from lawn mowers and snow blowers to trucks and automobiles. To take an example from the automotive industry, it has been claimed that Volvo’s core competency is ...
I do not like the new google layout!! - Web Search Help
I do not like the new google layout for the search engine.  The sidebar moves the searches to the right by and inch and a half which makes it distracting and difficult to use.  I wish it would go back to the way it used to be.  Or at least if that side bar was moved to the right instead of the left. How do I let google know my opinion? I completely agree.  I found the previous "normal google" to be perfect.  If they are going to make significant changes they should at least give us an opportunity to change it via preferences. (ie: move options to right, classic view, etc.) Seems like a Microsoft move to me.  (microsoft staff)... ...
