A report last year by research firm Staffing Industry Analysts (a sister company of Workforce Management) found that the percentage of companies using a vendor management system jumped from 34 percent in 2007 to 63 percent in 2009. Insurance auditors have been looking to the IRS definitions of independent contractors for years to determine if a particular person is truly an independent contractor. If there is a misclassification then in most states the situation where an independent is a one or two person shop and is not required to carry WC - the circumstance will change.
