Beyond the gimmick

For overrated I think "The Dark Knight" and Memento" are overrated. "The Dark Knight" is just so confusing, I don't know what is going on. It is not nearly as good as people say it is. Christian Bale and Aaron Eckhart over-acted. Heath Ledger was, of course, terrific, but even his performance is becoming overrated. People are saying it the best performance of the decade, even one of the best of all time. It isn't. Although I do like it. Now"Memento". I like it, but I don't think it is one of the decade's best films. Guy Pierce and Carrie-Ann Moss were good, and the screenplay was good and so ...

Nearly naked foam party rocks! | Guide for Guys - Tampa Strip ...
clothing-optional foam party at the Riverboat Nudist Club in Land O' Lakes on Friday. And let's get this out of the way first: There were naked people and we did gawk at them for a little bit (there won't be any pictures of them though). Once we got past the initial shock that there were a few scattered nudists walking around, we found one well put together party. Aside from the foamy goodness, There was the awesome DJ Robert Van West who mixed electro-rave stuff combined with some dark wave and industrial plus an interlude for a band called the Unit Shifters that rocked out some classic tunes (their ... market research, surveys and trends
Game Design: How CRPGs Warped My Brain, Part 3
So here’s the continuation of the series about several CRPGs over the last three decades and how they did damage to my head and influenced my feelings on games and game design (you can read part 1 here , and part 2 here ). So here are a bunch more games, principally from the end of the 80’s and the first half of the 1990s.  I’m really skipping a bunch of games at this point – even some very fun ones – but in those cases I guess that the vulnerable part of my mind was already gone by the time I got around to playing them. But I did realize that I’d missed one significant influence from the ... market research, surveys and trends

New TV trends: Internet movies, 3-D, power saving |
A man is silhouetted as he walks past the NBC Universal booth at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Thursday. LAS VEGAS -- TV makers are adding sexy new features like streaming Internet movies and 3-D capabilities this year, betting that they can keep consumers away from basic, no-frills sets, even in a weak economy. The manufacturers are fighting an unhappy trend. DisplaySearch, a research firm, forecasts that global sales of LCD TVs, the most popular kind, will fall 16 percent in 2009 to $64 billion. That would be the first sales decline since the technology debuted in TVs in 2000. To entice ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

The “Go On Green” mural outside the Miller Valley Elementary School in Prescott, Arizona, is at the center of a debate over racism. The artists defied demands to lighten the complexions of two minority children featured in their painting. Of the four children from the school featured in the mural, two are white. CNN’s Don Lemon spoke with the artists, Pamela Smith and R.E. Wall, who said the demands were the result of racism. All of this as Arizona is in the national spotlight for its new immigration law, which critics call racial profiling. The mural –- meant to promote environmentally sustainable transportation –- instead was ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Kinect: Are the games worth it?
If games make the platform, then the launch titles for Microsoft's Kinect are even more important than the technology itself. Will they be worth the Kinect's likely $150 investment? At its E3 press conference, Microsoft announced that 15 titles would be available at launch and proceeded to briefly demonstrate a handful. Here's the rundown, and our knee-jerk response to each. Kinectimals: Hereafter to also be remembered as "Skittles: the game" by those who saw the keynote, the demo consisted largely of a little girl playing with a tiger named Skittles. Strikeforce's Lawler-Babalu bout carries weighty implications
This week features shows from three major organizations, but only one fight has guaranteed title implications. "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler and Renato "Babalu" Sobral will face each other at 195 pounds in the headliner for Wednesday's Strikeforce show (11 p.m. ET, Showtime) in Los Angeles. The victor leaps into a fight to determine a No. 1 fighter in the promotion, although the specific division depends on who wins, said Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker. Sobral would get a shot at light-heavyweight champion Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal. Lawler would face Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza for either the ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Subtropics Interview • Chris Bachelder
Let’s tweak this question a bit so it’s less about me and more about the nature and challenge of comic fiction, which is a subject that is more interesting to me than my stunned introduction to Monty Python in southwestern Virginia, circa 1985. Fiction can be funny in a lot of different ways, and so people often mean many different things when they say a book or a writer is funny. A premise can be comic (as in Donald Barthelme, Donald Antrim, even Kafka); a character can be comic (as in Dickens, Sterne, Lorrie Moore, John Kennedy Toole, Gary Shteyngart); dialogue can be comic (George Saunders, DeLillo in White Noise,

So I was surfing around and saw something Ive never seen before on the web. I Clicked on a link and up comes a home page with lots of info / content on it, then in the lower right screen location, a woman walks into / onto this webpage and proceeds to introduce the website to the visitor. Now I know it was / is an embedded .swf movie file - I looked at the source, but I am still not smart enough to know how they do it. Is The Undertaker the best larger than life gimmick ever created ...
No other character epitomizes the wonder, the excitement, and the majesty of the WWE quite like the Undertaker. For almost 20 years the Deadman has unleashed a trail of bodies, built up a PHENOMenal fanbase, and given us as many memorable moments befitting a Hall of Fame-bound Superstar as any. Now you might ask me, wonder? What wonder has the Undertaker brought? If you've ever witnessed one of his entrances, whether on television or live, you might understand what I mean. His bell tolls, the flames rise, the eerie theme plays, his opponent cowers and the Phenom makes his way to the ring all the while there is a steady ...
