One Reuters article suggests luxury brands are a tough sell in India, which lags behind its BRIC bretheren in luxury sales overall. The article suggests three reasons may be ” lack of quality retail space, high import duties on luxury goods, a cap on ownership in local units, excessive red tape and piracy,” as well as a cultural tendency to ...

Brands on the Brink: Marketing in a Down Economy
Among other victims of the recession, brands have taken a beating. Private labels have gained market share. Consumers are cutting back. Retailers are turning up the heat. What does a down economy do to consumer behavior? Most obviously, it makes people less eager to open up their wallets. Media Brain Trust: Death watch edition - DailyFinance
I have a particularly keen interest in this question. So, to shed some light on it, I've assembled what shall forthwith be known as the Media Brain Trust: a group of several dozen editors in chief, publishers, producers, developers, executives, consultants and others whose views about what's going on in the media industry I've found to be especially astute over the years. I put the question to them: What media brands do you expect to see disappear in the next 12 months or so? BusinessWeek. This was the clear consensus favorite, and it should come as no surprise, seeing as it was only two weeks ago that McGraw-Hill industry trends, business articles and survey research

German Luxury Brands Are Putting On The Blitz
The global economy is giving mixed signals right now. On the thumbs-down side, unstable unemployment numbers and see-saw stock markets. On the upside, job creation, the return of venture capital, and slowly increasing GDPs (at least in most parts of the world). In the auto industry, GM and Chrysler continue to recover from their losses over the last two years, but across the pond, German luxury automakers are finding themselves even further in the black, thanks in no small part to Greece and its unfortunate economic missteps. What license do I need to operate a motorscooter? | Ask MetaFilter
I am a licensed driver in California, with a valid Class "C" license. I am thinking of buying a "Vespa" type motorscooter. Do I need to get a special motorcycle license, or does my current license cover it? If California is anything like Minnesota, it depends on the engine displacement of the scooter you're planning on purchasing. In MN, any 2-wheeled motor vehicle under 50cc's does not require a special endorsement to your driver's license (as long as its top speed is not greater than 35 mph). Anything above 50cc's requires a motorcycle endorsement. I repair and ride vintage Vespa scooters. I'm not ...
