The Chinese economy grew by 9.6 percent, 0.6 percentage points more than earlier estimates, in 2008, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Friday after discovering that the service sector had played a greater role than thought earlier. The NBS economic census results also show that the country achieved greater success in reducing its energy intensity, or the amount of energy used to generate each unit of GDP, last year. It used 5.2 percent less energy per unit of GDP, much less than the 4.6 percent as reported earlier. The country set a goal to cut energy intensity by 20 percent during the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-10). industry trends, business articles and survey research

For our 19th anniversary issue, our publisher had the idea to share reporting from throughout our history. While it would be impossible to select a “best of Honolulu Weekly” (or at least we’re smart enough to save that for the next anniversary), we looked through our archives for stories that spoke to the issues Honolulu faces today. Some are depressing, some frustrating, some are sad and at least one is pretty amusing. We hope you find these selections useful, and thank you, as always, for reading Honolulu Weekly . Here in 2010, the governor wants a popular vote on civil unions, and says people feel too strongly about the issue ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Focus groups, anthropologists argue, set an artificial stage, while ethnographic research reaches much deeper into the social fabric. If companies understand a group's social context, they can better understand and even predict their product needs and attitudes towards products in the future. by Jennifer McFarland When a new product needs testing for consumer reaction, companies traditionally turn to that old ...
