I know that there are some basic elements that go into a marketing/brand style guide: logos of various colours/monochrome; rules around placement; corporate colours and so on. I've seen good style guides and bad style guides. The good ones seem to cover "more stuff" and in doing so provide greater guidance for the development of various forms of marketing collateral and content. I'd like to see a list of all the elements that should be included in a style guide, not just the basics.
