For the past eight years, I've worked with helping midsized IT companies sell their products into a maturing telecom market. This is so different from the earlier times of unbounded growth that it doesn't even feel like the same industry anymore. In the old days (i.e., before 2000), there were so many new telecom companies sprouting up that a company did not have to be a leader to be successful. They just had to be good enough. Today, telecom vendors circle prospects like hungry dogs around a restaurant dumpster. The biggest and strongest elbow their way to the front, and the midsize guys try to keep from starving. ...
technology standard for exchanging data over short distances (using short length radio waves) from fixed and mobile devices, creating personal area networks (PANs) with high levels of security. Created by telecoms vendor Ericsson in 1994, it was originally conceived as a wireless alternative to RS-232 data cables. It can connect several devices, overcoming problems of synchronization. Shop Talk - Innovation, Marketing and Alliances: What's wrong with ...
musician Marie Digby made simple videos of herself singing cover songs, posted them on YouTube, got millions of views, and parlayed that into gigs on the Carson Daly show, local LA radio, and general buzz as a true YouTube discovery. Oh, and she made an album with Hollywood Records (part of Disney) last year that is about to be released. The YouTube idea and the TV and radio appearances were done with the approval and assistance of marketing at Hollywood Records. Oops. She made the videos herself, posted them ... market research, surveys and trends

Shop Talk - Innovation, Marketing and Alliances: October 2006
This is getting repetitive. And ironic, given Comcast's position as a major force in the broadband internet and its increasing penetration into the content space. So, rather than bemoan the lack of blogs, I wanted to ponder a bit on why large companies like Comcast don't blog. Some thoughts: Too risky. Blogs are hard to do well, especially when you're trying to balance between many constituencies. The demands of public ownership, for one, and the strictures of Sarbanes-Oxley can put a crimp in anyone's communication strategy. Yet many companies ( IBM , Intel ) blog well regardless. Don't want a lame PR blog. industry trends, business articles and survey research
Don't worry about Lego Star Wars impairing kids' creativity ...
Amid a 5 percent drop in total United States toy sales last year and the industry's worst holiday season in three decades, according to Sean McGowan, an analyst at Needham & Company, Lego's sales surged 18.7 percent in 2008. And despite a worsening global recession, Lego powered through the first half of 2009, with a 23 percent sales increase over the period a year earlier. It earned $355 million before taxes last year, and $178 million in the first half of 2009. But the article contained an ominous message: In the United States, Lego's biggest market and the biggest toy market in the world, games with themes like ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
