larry bodine is a marketing goon
This blog serves one purpose: for me to rant. That is it. If you have ideas or comments, please post them. If you have a topic you want me to rant on, please let me know. But, most of all, enjoy! So I get this unsolicited email from this guy Larry Bodine about Avvo. Avvo may be the greatest thing for lawyers since the invention of a laptop. (Full Disclosure: I have no interest in Avvo, financial or otherwise.) However, Larry Bovine says that Avvo has no credibility. This is coming from a guy who is a "marketing consultant." Stein's Dictionary - consultant - n - one who tells others how to do what he cannot do. ... market research, surveys and trends

Legal Marketing -- by Larry Bodine:
The average marketer spent 12% of his or her search budget on search engine optimization (SEO) last year. That's the art of tweaking your company's Web site so search engine spiders are more likely to notice it, and give you great organic rankings. (Organic are the results you don't pay anything for.) On the other hand, the average marketer spent 88% of his or her search marketing budget on paid search ads. It's a massive discrepancy. But is it justified? Nope, according to Anne Holland, President of Marketing Sherpa in a new article entitled Your Search Marketing Budget is Probably Out of Whack . Rather than ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Commentary: Don't cut the chatter
My guess is, the connotations most lawyers make for the word "chat" generally are not positive - at least from the perspective of bumping up your bottom line. That is, chat = waste of time. That's what I thought, too, until I looked into chat services for lawyers as an effective use of your marketing time and dollars. I found there are a few decent options out there. NGage NGage live chat software allows website visitors to communicate immediately with a live representative. The way it works is, NGage uploads a small piece of code to your website. Its operators monitor your site 24/7 to greet them and answer questions. ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Friends in High Places
Laurence Tribe remembers watching Potter Stewart, the U.S. Supreme Court justice for whom he clerked in 1967, feed his office fireplace around Christmas time. Stewart was burning some of his Court papers, recalls Tribe, the Harvard law professor and now senior counselor at the Justice Department. "He told me that it was an annual affair." What papers did Stewart destroy that year? "I promised him I'd remain forever silent, and it's a promise I feel bound to keep," Tribe said. That annual ritual helps explain why the recent opening of Stewart's papers at Yale University Library may not produce a burst of ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Amy Campbell's Web Log » Law Firm Marketing
One thing I’ve noticed having traveled in legal marketing circles for several years is that lawyers LOVE to know the answer to this question: “What are other firms doing?” So to help answer that burning inquiry, I am posting this quick article pointer to: As firms cut marketing, others see opportunity By Karen Sloan, Staff Reporter National Law Journal In the article Sloan states that while some firms will be cutting marketing department budgets, other firms “plan to maintain or increase the amount they spend on marketing in 2009 in an attempt to add clients and bolster their brand while their competitors ...

If you offer webinars, I'd love your tips on how to run one ...
Running a webinar isn't inherently complex but since I prefer to keep my full undivided attention on deliverying my content and not the behind the scenes, I always have an organizer on hand to keep it running. He makes sure the recording button is pushed at the right time (I have forgotten a time or two.) And he will monitor questions also. I also simply feel more comfortable having someone on the call who is watching my back so to speak. He also does my teleseminars in the same manner, though lately I've done those solo. In any online training, I prefer and request questions online only, it is rare for me to open up ...
