Most of my clients are happy if I just ...

John Storch hit the bull’s eye in his answer to the question, “What’s the biggest (marketing-related) misstep that companies make when expanding from midsized company to the next level?”   Companies usually get to the point of stepping from mid-sized to the next level by being intensely market and customer-centric. The loss of that focus is the biggest misstep. As companies get larger, more complex and more bureaucratic, ‘power’ often shifts from the customer to the company. And different functions within the company become more assertive. Product development often takes a more important role. ... market research, surveys and trends

I outlined why it's so important, especially in today's challenging economy. Whether you consider marketing to be a fun and creative part of your work or simply a business necessity, there are a few basic steps to take to help ensure success, right from the start. 1. Take Marketing Seriously You may not be a marketing professional, but you should approach your marketing program professionally. Make the commitment to your practice and then stick to it. As the UW faces as-yet undetermined cuts to its state funding, many of you have asked us if the Reputation Building Initiative (RBI) is still moving forward. The answer is yes. The only change is one of scale. We no longer plan to have a highly visible public launch of the initiative. However, we still plan to be purposeful about how we present this remarkable University to the world. And we will still provide tools, templates, and training to help us all market the UW in a consistent way -- and to help everyone save costs and gain efficiencies and expertise. The RBI is not just a UW Marketing project; it is the responsibility ...

Hi Patsi...we use the majority of our content to attract prospects to our site. Then we use conversion blogging or landing pages for them to sign up to additional gated content (blog RSS/email, white paper, etc.) so we can nurture them. So, about 99% of our content is free and sharable. Our 1% where we require email is for our big content packages (newsletter, white paper, ebook). We feel this model works the best rather than limiting the majority of your content because - gated content is not shared in social media and without giving them a taste of what you can offer, it's hard to get them to even think about giving up ...

The sales position offered more job security, more money and the chance to travel regularly to the high capitals of business: New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and occasionally, New Orleans. But I entered the business of sales with profound reluctance. I feared that sales would require inauthentic behavior. To succeed at sales you will have to sell your soul to the devil of false promises and exaggerated claims. Your smile will go ...
