I was initially an undergrad education major, then decided I wanted to "challenge" myself and did premed on top of an English/Writing BA. Now I've been to medical school--partially scholarship-funded, so I'm only ~$100,000 in the hole (my colleagues are much, much deeper). I did my intern year at a marvelous place that was just tolerable enough I could get through it for all the supposed benefits a completed intern year gives you, such as eligibility for a license, real work experience, etc.
