I was lucky enough to be able to attend Bazaarvoice's Social Commerce Summit held in Austin earlier this week. It was a day and a half of sessions jammed packed with best practices, social commerce theory, and beer packing donkeys. Here are a few of my rapid fire take-aways: 1. "Anyone can be an influencer." - Sam Decker - Bazaarvoice CMO 2. "Make something that ordinary people want to share with each other." - Jonah Peretti - Buzzfeed 3. Make it easy for customers to submit their reviews, stories, questions, answers etc. 4. Customer feedback/reviews should be shared with all departments. 5. Define your ...
is a broad term that emerged in the later part of the 20th century to encompass the amalgamation of traditional media such as film, images, music, spoken and written word, with the interactive power of computer and communications technology, computer-enabled consumer devices and most importantly the internet. New media holds out a possibility of on-demand access to content any time, anywhere, on any digital device, as well as interactive user feedback, creative participation and community formation around the media content. What distinguishes New media from traditional media is not the digitizing of media content into bits, but ...
Challenging Social Dogma - New Media, Social Media, Digital Media ...
The marketplace of conversations is filled with social dogma — "a doctrine or code of beliefs accepted as authoritative." Social marketing, SEO, social advertising, get twitter followers, make money online etc. and the dogma proliferates our attention and steals our time while the meaning and value becomes useless. What does it mean to challenge the social dogma? Creative thought challenges existing dogma, instead of complying with it: to reject what is and instead creates something that isn't. People and organizations tend to buy into the dogma: "this is how things are done," they think — and then they ... market research, surveys and trends
Nashville Area Parents Create Safe Social Media Site for Their ...
.  It's similar to Facebook and YouTube with more privacy settings and helpful editors.  It has safety features built in like avatars, tips for young users, neighborhood administrators, links to safety sites, and tips for parents.  It pitches a kid-friendly user interface including some tips and examples from [I assume] the family dog Floyd Goodneighbor.     So here's my take.  I think this is an excellent idea.  The built-in security features and education in security is very good.  The FAQs are well written and provide much better instructions than Facebook ... market research, surveys and trends

Social media turn the business scene inside out
In a very short time, the use of social media by business has erupted and evolved. From the first days – for many only a year or so ago – the use of these new media has matured. Already some local companies, such as Air New Zealand, are moving beyond Facebook and Twitter to experiment with new services, including geolocation. Tom Bates, the airline's social media and viral marketing head, said a recent campaign used the service, which uses a mobile phone's ability to know where you are, to allow customers to win Airpoints, a Koru Lounge pass or to become "mayors" of the ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

CDC - Blogs - Health Marketing Musings
When Health Marketing Musings was launched in July 2006, it was one of the first official blogs by a federal official in the US Government. Less than four years later, there are now hundreds of official blogs, dozens of official Twitter feeds and social network sites, and a small but growing number of mobile resources and applications. The Federal Government has strongly embraced social media and participatory web technologies and even non-governmental health organizations are beginning to use these technologies. New Media Marketing — Wharton@Work April 2010
Because marketing opportunities in new media are relatively inexpensive, many organizations are tempted to try them without first understanding potential hazards. Dipping a toe in the water might seem tempting, but consider the costs of new media marketing — both actual and potential. Know what you’re getting into, and where you want to go. It’s much better to understand, to plan, and then to act. Patti Williams , Associate Professor of Marketing; Academic Director, High-Impact Marketing: Profiting from New Media Approach these options with both a strategy grounded in knowledge of this new marketing terrain and ...

Small Business Blog - B2B - Skip the Social Media Marketing
If you’re running a B2B enterprise, scratching your head and wondering how you’re supposed to take advantage of social media tools such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter – you’re not alone. Aside from the fact that online social media is irrationally hyped (60 percent of Twitter users abandon the service after the first month) it’s an especially bad marketing fit for B2B. Asked to comment on the Twitter statistic, one B2B marketer said, “Most users of social media for business don't realize the time commitment and demand for resources associated with it. After a month or so they lose interest and don't update it. Any ...
