Heres the paradox: the more aggressively a firm competes, the greater its performance. But by competing so aggressively, it also forces its rivals to compete more aggressively, thus improving their performance. By being competitiveand thus successfula firm also creates more competitiveand thus more successfulrivals for itself. Ken Smith, Deans Chair and Professor of Management and Organization, and Curt Grimm, Deans Professor of Supply Chain and Strategy, have been exploring the effects of competitive action on firm performance for many years. In a recent ...
for the side opposing Alice. Despite this, their initial encounter is a cordial one, with the Red Queen explaining the rules of Chess concerning promotion — specifically that Alice is able to become a queen by starting out as a pawn and reaching the eighth square at the opposite end of the board. As a queen in the game of Chess, the Red Queen is able to move swiftly and effortlessly. Later, in Chapter 9, she appears with the White Queen , posing a series of typical Wonderland/Looking-Glass questions ("Divide a loaf by a knife: what's the answer to that ?"), and then celebrating Alice's promotion from pawn to ...
The Red Queen Effect
In Lewis Carroll’s novel, “Through the Looking Glass”, the Red Queen tells Alice that in the Looking Glass world “it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place”. Although most commonly applied to evolutionary theory, the ‘Red Queen Effect’ is a fitting allegory to describe very nicely how many people run their online business. It’s so easy to become caught up in a pattern where all your time is taken up just trying to stay ahead of the day to day jobs – those myriad of administrative tasks – that do nothing more than keep your business just a heartbeat away from failure. This trend will continue ... market research, surveys and trends

The Red Queen of E-Commerce
There are five must-have features e-tailers should incorporate into their online businesses, according to Joe Chung, cofounder and CEO of Allurent: interactive merchandising, advanced shopping tools, rich media, advanced search and guided navigation, and social commerce. The Red Queen in Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass lives in a very curious world where, as she explains to Alice, "It takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place." I think that sentence sums up the world of e-commerce with uncanny accuracy: No matter how hard we work to knock items off the priority list, there are always ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Article on the business of spam; "spam queen"
Couldn't agree more Korkus. She obviously doesn't understand just how angry spam mail makes people. I pity her poor kids who now have had their mother's job made public to millions of angry spam recipients. I think I'd be packing up and moving in a big hurry! She does understand how angry people get - she just does not have sufficient ethical values to realize that what she is doing is (a) spam, (b) undesired, and (c) harming people. In other words, she makes excuses (typical of people who have no ethics) to justify her slimmy behavior and to make herself feel better. Richard Lowe Her stats show why spammers ...
