Lately, “coywolves” have been making headlines and raising eyebrows. They are a wild canid that is a hybrid between a coyote and a wolf. It may sound like an urban legend, but coywolves are real.* I first learned about this quirky common name via a news article from The Star in Canada, Meet the Coywolf (by reporter Carola Vyhnak) , which does a surprisingly good job of detailing the coywolf and its increasing run-ins with humans on the eastern edge of greater Toronto. And now, a new study is out offering both a coarse-scale genetic analysis of this new hybrid species, and specific trends in their skull shape. One ...
was extended to the city to take advantage of its large natural seaport, which soon became a vital link in a trade route between the Orient , Eastern Canada, and London . 2 3 The Port Metro Vancouver is now the busiest and largest in Canada, as well as the fourth largest port (by tonnage) in North America . While forestry remains its largest industry, Vancouver is well known as an urban centre surrounded by nature, making tourism its second largest industry. It also is the third largest film production centre in North America after Los Angeles and New York City , earning it the nickname Hollywood North . Vancouver has ranked ...
MLS expands. Now what? « Kicks Soccer
Quebec provincial official Raymond Bachand, Joey Saputo, MLS Commissioner Don Garber and city official Richard Deschamps pose for a photo after announcing the MLS expansion to Montreal in 2012. (Source: Getty Images) In case you missed it, the big news coming out of Major League Soccer last week had little to do with what was happening on the field. On Friday, Don Garber was in Montreal to make official the worst-kept secret in league history: Montreal will join MLS. The Impact will join the league as the 19th team for the 2012 season, so it’s time once again to begin speculating about what city will be joining the league ... market research, surveys and trends

The film also stars Fay Masterson ("Eyes Wide Shut") and Katherine Boecher ("The Last Word"). Gregoire expands poll lead over Rossi
The latest numbers are an improvement for Gregoire, who led Rossi 43-38 in April. The latest survey of 405 registered voters in the state was conducted June 18-22 and has a margin of error of 5 percent. Pollster Stuart Elway reports the Gregoire-Rossi rematch remains a highly partisan affair: * 81 percent of Democrats intend to vote for Gregoire. * 78 percent of Republicans plan to vote for Rossi. * Gregoire leads among independents 43-37. The highest proportion of undecided voters were people under age 35. Elway says 35 percent of them still haven't settled on a candidate. Twentieth Century Atlas - Death Tolls
I defined the Hemoclysm as that string of interconnected barbarities which have made the Twentieth Century so fascinating for historians and so miserable for real people. Here, I have listed the sources for determing the body count for the Big Four -- the First and Second World Wars, Communist China and the Soviet Union -- which together account for maybe ¾ of all deaths by atrocity in the 20th Century.
