Book Review: "Linchpin" by Seth Godin | The Crossing of Marketing ...
This is the first book I purchased using Amazon’s Kindle for PC application. My first impression is: I really like it. Kindle for PC is quite easy to use and very readable. I do believe I will purchase more books this way. One “phobia” I have is that I hate to write in books, so I rarely put notes in them. I can count on one hand in how many books in which I’ve written notes. With the Kindle for PC it was very easy to highlight text and type in some notes. This allowed me to save the thoughts parts of the book inspired in me. At the end of this review, I will share some of those notes. One downside to the Kindle for PC app is ... market research, surveys and trends

Liveblog: Google Takes $1 Billion Charge To Write Down AOL And ...
Net Income was down a whopping 68 percent to $382 million (compared to $1.2 billion a year ago), primarily because of a $1 billion impairment charge related Google’s ownership stakes in AOL (for which it took a $726 million writedown) and Clearwire ($355 million writedown). We all know why the AOL stake is worth less than what Google paid for it (just look at Time Warner’s stock.) Instead of the $20 billion that Google’s five percent stake valued AOL at the time of its original investment, its new writedown now values AOL at $5.5 billion. The Clearwire writedown isn’t surprising either. That is the ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

IBM looks for cloud computing projects in unlikely places
A flurry of new projects from IBM signal the company's slow but steady shift to cloud computing. IBM is pitching small-scale use cases and "cloud wins" to demonstrate where it sees the opportunity today for cloud: infrastructure automation and virtual desktop services. It also offers public cloud services, but customer numbers remain small. For instance, IBM is helping the University of Bari in Italy deliver mapping and market data via virtual desktops on fishing boats ; and it's selling the University of Missouri a "genomics cloud" to speed up genome sequencing and analysis. Turning soccer stadiums into multimedia high-tech arenas with network technology
Nerve-wracking moments in a game, redeeming goals, moving images. The eyes of the world are on the soccer stadiums of South Africa right now. Like any good contest in a large arena, the World Cup is a memorable experience and provides a wealth of information and data on matches, teams and competition. But how do all these images and pieces of information get onto the gigantic video boards in the stadiums and public viewing sites and at the same time onto television and the Internet? How does a soccer stadium communicate?   “Modern data networks ensure that all systems in a stadium are always on the ball. They handle ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
