The program has been recognized as America's number one graduate school in advertising and marketing, most recently with the O’Toole Award in 2009 and by Creativity Magazine in 2007. Unlike many advertising schools, The VCU Brandcenter is more than a portfolio school as it offers students a master’s degree to compliment the advertising portfolio students create. The program is known within the advertising industry for its intensity. However, the students who graduate from the program earn valuable real life experience to develop brands on a global scale. The program allows students to choose one of five different areas of ...

Higher Education and Manliness | The Art of Manliness
Editor’s Note: This is a guest post from Brad Revare. Mr. Revare is a junior at the University of Colorado-Boulder. Robert Redford, the iconic actor of “The Natural,” is considered to be the most famous alumnus of the University of Colorado. His square jaw is plastered around campus and in alumni magazines. The story of his employment at a burger joint across the street from campus is common Colorado lore. However, I came across another famous alum that embodies manliness in physical prowess, intellectual ability, and pure leadership. I was surprised to find that no one casually mentions him in conversation ... market research, surveys and trends

Thorstein Veblen And The Higher Learning Of Sport Management ...
Since 1999 marks the 100th anniversary of Thorstein Veblen's The Theory of the Leisure Class, it is both interesting and informative to consider how much (or how little) American society has changed since the publication of this economics classic. This paper focuses on three areas dealt with in Leisure Class: sports, higher education, and the mingling of the two institutions. In 1966, there was only one degree program in sport management/administration offered in the United States. By 1993, the number of colleges offering degrees in this field had grown to 193, with degrees ranging from the associate to doctoral level. ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Lauer Remains in Past, Dubs Reagan's 1980s the “Decade of Greed ...
Youd think that after the phony bubble of the late 1990s, built on exaggerated earnings and revenue claims by some greedy corporate executives, that referring to the Reagan era of the 1980s as the Decade of Greed would be passe. But its a slap at the decade some in the media cant shake. Case in point: On Tuesdays Today, Matt Lauer marked the 20th anniversary of the film The Big Chill -- yes, NBC considered this milestone newsworthy -- by recalling how it was released in 1983, a period he described as a time of Reaganomics, burgeoning yuppies, and the Decade of Greed. 2. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Search for foreign films about everyday people | Ask MetaFilter
What foreign film titles are there that involve remarkably realistic characters -and- settings as part of the plot and use a contemporary setting? I watched the recent Italian film The Son's Room , and plot aside I found an angle here that I really liked -- the drama of everyday people in another country, with both characters and setting presented with stark realism and minimal music scoring. This made it a surprisingly immersive movie. So I'm wondering what else might fit this theme to show bits of what ordinary life is like in other cultures and countries, short of going down the road of documentaries or reality ...
Slashdot | The Impatience of the Google Generation
Im an ex. teacher, now working in the industry instead, and I think I have an idea why they are like that - you know - incredibly impatient, demanding and everything has to be here and now! Its because they are used to it, with search engines like Google and others - not to mention modern computers with awesome search facilities gives them the power of instant knowledge, so who wants to wait given alternatives like that? We of the "older" generation are used to doing things by experience and heavy research into just about everything, and we have TRIED what they are doing now - therefor we know the difference between ...
