I’m respecting your limited time by publishing this weekly digest on the Social Networking space, which I cover as an industry analyst. By creating this digest (I started this over a year ago) it really helps me to stay on top of the space I cover. I’ve created a new category called Digest (view archives) . Start with the Web Strategy Summary, then quickly scan the succinct and categorized headlines, read text for my take, and click link to dive in for more. Subscribe to this blog in your feedreader , or use the email subscription box in the right column. Or you can subscribe to this digest tag only and not receive my other posts.
The company employs an algorithm that identifies topics with high advertising potential, based on search engine query data and bids on advertising auctions. These topics are typically in the advice and how-to field. It then commissions freelancers to produce corresponding text or video content. The content is posted on a variety of sites, including YouTube (where Demand Media is one of the largest suppliers of videos) and the company's own sites such as eHow , LIVESTRONG.COM, Trails.com, GolfLink.com, Mania.com, and Cracked.com . 2 3 Cite error: There are tags on this page, but the references will not show without a ...

Altimeter Report: The 8 Success Criteria For Facebook Page ...
Altimeter Group conducted research, and gleaned input from 34 vendors, agencies, and experts, to determine success criteria and develop a roadmap for Facebook page best practices. We found Eight Success Criteria for Facebook page marketing, and then tested the maturity of 30 top brands across six industries. Our heuristic evaluation revealed that brands fell short – nearly half of the brands we reviewed (14 out of 30) did not fully leveraged social features to activate word of mouth, the hallmark behavior of social networks. Within this immature landscape, a few brands were on the right track to successfully harnessing Facebook ... market research, surveys and trends
» The Three Spheres of Web Strategy – by Jeremiah Owyang YABOYA
I hope this is one of those resources you print out pin to your desk, and share with others. This is the core theme of this blog, the balance needed for successful web endeavors in organizations. I originally posted this diagram in 2006, then updated it in 2007 , and it%u2019s time to revisit the core structure of the goals and challenges of a Web Strategist, especially as I reset as I change roles. Who%u2019s a Web Strategist? In a company, they often are responsible for the long term vision of corporate web properties. At a web company where their product is on the web, they%u2019re often the product manager or CTO. ... market research, surveys and trends

Stats on social networks are important, but I’m going to need your help in creating a community archive, can you submit stats as you find them? I’m often asked, “What are the usage numbers for X social network” and I’ve received considerable traffic on my very old post ( way back in Jan 08 ) of MySpace and Facebook stats, even months later. Decision makers, press, media, and users are hungry for numbers, so I’ll start to aggregate them as I see them. How I interpret stats Numbers don’t tell us much without insight and interpretation, in fact, you’re going to see conflicting ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

IT502 - Tutorial - Finalization and Launch Process - Pavan Vatti
There are many different paths you can take in order to go about finalizing a large scale site, but they all have one thing in common: TEST, TEST, and RE–TEST. It is important to keep your stakeholder well informed all throughout the website design and development process, especially when it comes down to finalization. This is the part of the process where the stakeholder’s visions and expectations are supposed to be met. You should begin by walking through the site and explaining any changes or alterations that you had to make from the original plan. One ...

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Question: Active vs Inactive Users on Social Networks
I'm looking for articles/statistics around the number of active vs inactive users on social networks. I'd like to find at least three articles/links that discuss the following: What percentage of users who join a social network (either a specific one or just SNs in general) actually are active? (ie fill out a profile, upload a picture, etc.) I know some stuff has been published about Twitter and how many of its users are inactive but ideally there would be some data on how many of the accounts on other sites are fake/inactive relative to the overall number of accounts.
