Every year, about $200 million is allocated for program evaluation or policy analysis of about $200 billion worth of social programs in the U.S.  This lecture provides the basics needed to understand and hopefully prepare such research proposals.  Program evaluation is defined as the use of research to measure the effects of a program in terms of its goals, outcomes, or criteria. Policy analysis is defined as the use of any evaluative research to improve or legitimate the practical implications of a policy-oriented program. Program evaluation is done when the policy is fixed or unchangeable. ...
is a party that can affect or be affected by the actions of the business as a whole. The stakeholder concept was first used in a 1963 internal memorandum at the Stanford Research institute. It defined stakeholders as "those groups without whose support the organization would cease to exist." The theory was later developed and championed by R. Edward Freeman in the 1980s. Since then it has gained wide acceptance in business practice and in theorizing relating to strategic management , corporate governance , business purpose and corporate social responsibility (CSR). The term has been broadened to include anyone who has ...

The main, and most uncomfortable truth, is that this [journalism] industry is the principal architect of its greatest difficulty today. We are allowing our journalism—billions of dollars worth of it every year—to leak onto the Internet. It is time to pause and recognize this—Free Costs Too Much. ” David Estok Keynote , Envisioning 2020: The Canadian Public Relations Leadership Summit This post comprises a mashup of ideas resulting from a summit presentation and readings of the following: two Globe and Mail newspaper articles (print and online), a recent James Grunig research paper and a blog post by Chris Lynch. The Nonprofit Quarterly | The Nonprofit Quarterly | When a Donor ...
On March 12, 2008, Stephen Schwarzman, the cofounder and chairman of the private equity firm the Blackstone Group L.P., pledged $100 million to the New York Public Library. The gift was the single largest donation the library had ever received, and the library will rename its main Manhattan building after him. A donation of this size is not an unusual occurrence. For generations, wealthy entrepreneurs have made pivotal donations to all kinds of nonprofits. When all goes well, wealthy benefactors give, and nonprofits name things after them—a building, a school, a program or hallway—and all is well. But what happens when a ... market research, surveys and trends

Truth, lies and minerals tax: the RSPT debate deciphered
It boils down to a question of whose case you prefer: that of the Treasury boss Ken Henry or that of the mining magnates and their lobby group. (AAP Image: Macarthur Coal) Amid the spin, misinformation and hyperbole about the resources super profits tax (RSPT), one thing is not seriously in dispute: the profits that mining companies make from extracting Australia's natural resources have soared, and the return going to the public hasn't kept pace. Once you accept that - as even the mining lobby does - it's hard to claim there isn't a case in public policy for increasing the price or charge that mining ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Examples of this would include a display of thought provoking and controversial posters, open public debate etc within an organisation or system. I am looking at change communication for my Masters in Communications thesis – Umberto Eco’s concept of open messaging and applying it to Harold Bridger’s Transitional approach to managing change (using questions and creativity to assist in transitional learning).
