I had the pleasure of attending and serving on a panel at the PRSA/PRSSA Pro-Am Day in St. Louis. The some 120 attendees (about half being college communications majors), myself included, were fortunate to meet new PRSA president/CEO Gary McCormick and listen to him speak . His luncheon presentation, “A Tale of Two Sides: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,” addressed why the future of PR is bright – while acknowledging the downturned economy and shuttering of many print media outlets. McCormick began with the “Three E’s Bringing Change.” Economy – budgets are down and value propositions are up, ...

PR Studies: Macnamara on media and the future of PR
This scholarly book is an important – but complex – contribution to the literature on PR and social media. So let’s start by unpicking the book’s title. Macnamara tries to steer a course between the utopians heralding a major media revolution and the dystopians who see declining standards all around them. Hence the ambivalence over whether new media should be considered revolutionary or evolutionary. Then there’s the concept of emergence: as he explains it, ’some media and systems of communication are mutating, becoming self-organizing, and evolving into wholly new forms… Emergent media owe as much to chaos theory as to ... market research, surveys and trends

2009 State of the Society: A Year of New Beginnings at PRSA
This past year was one of incredible accomplishments for PRSA. We introduced a new website, launched an industry advocacy campaign, rewrote the Society's Bylaws and reaffirmed PRSA as a respected voice within the public relations profession. We also instituted a comprehensive Chapter survey, introduced new professional development opportunities (many of them free), furthered our diversity and public relations education initiatives and — amid a very challenging economic backdrop — staged an extremely successful International Conference and looked to finish the year with a slight income surplus over ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
TSLA: What Does Tesla's IPO Mean for the Future of Electric Cars?
Tesla Motors today became the first American car company to make an initial public offering since Ford did so in 1956. And one could argue the sleek, fast Tesla Roadster the company has been selling is in some ways a bit like Ford’s old Model T, which revolutionized assembly-line manufacturing. Tesla seems poised to be part of the redefinition of the way we drive. After all, the Palo Alto, Calif., electric-car maker has in many ways been showing the rest of the auto industry how electric cars are done. The sleek Tesla Roadster is an emblem of electric cars’ potential in terms of power, speed and range. Without it I ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Russian spy ring: Medvedev's allies blame US politicians for 'Right-wing ...
Footage of US President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev munching burgers in an American diner last week went down a storm in Russia. It was shown ad nauseum until every Russian must have known off by heart exactly what condiments the two world leaders had to choose from and how many ice cubes they had in their respective drinks. News that eleven people in the United States have been accused of being Russian spies is obviously going to play less well. But more pertinently, it leaves the Kremlin with something of a public relations problem, with its own population. After years of spoon-feeding a largely ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

What is the current state/future of corporate podcasting ...
Podcasting certainly hasn't reached its full potential, and it's possible that it never will. As much as some of us adore it, the medium just doesn't have appeal to the masses. There is some chatter about car radios with built-in podcast aggregators. The thought is that if your car radio access to the Internet, even if it's through a mobile phone/device, then you can use the car to subscribe to podcasts. Of course, for that to catch on consumers would have to want to consume podcasts. It won't take much to add podcast aggregators to existing in-car computers (like MS's Sync), but who knows whether ...
