Pius XI named him patron saint of writers. For more ...
is a form of prayer in which a structured attempt is made to get in touch with and deliberately reflect upon the revelations of God . The word meditation comes from the Latin word meditari which means to concentrate. Christian meditation is the process of deliberately focusing on specific thoughts (e.g. a biblical scene involving Jesus and the Virgin Mary ) and reflecting on their meaning in the context of the love of God. Christian meditation contrasts with cosmic styles of oriental meditation as radically as the portrayal of God the Father in the Bible contrasts with discussions of Krishna or Brahman in Indian teachings. An Introduction to the Spiritual Life | Saint Francis de Sales
Like I said I finished reading this book awhile back but have been re-reading some of my favorite quotes and pondering the idea of the devout life. It’s hard for me to embrace books by old timers like de Sales sometimes. I had the same issue when I read Brother Lawrence’s Practicing the Presence of God . It just seems like these guys are so spiritual and I wonder if I can ever really “get there” or something, if I can ever really live the kind of life they encourage. Some of the problem is with the old school language and the perfunctory verbage but some of my problem is simply with myself. Can God’s grace really enable that ... market research, surveys and trends
What's the hurry?
The term ‘speed’ did not always mean to be fast, it actually used to mean just to ‘go’. The current fascination with speed, especially in our mega-cities across the globe, is really a construct that we have created ourselves, for ourselves, against ourselves, and pitted nicely against the logical opposing term: to be slow. If you are not the fastest, or trying to be the fastest, you are quickly labeled second rate, second class, unable to keep up, and discarded to the rubbish heap, the history of ideas that never quite was. I read recently in a book by Todd Gitlin – where I make reference to in ... market research, surveys and trends

Mary we crown thee with blossoms today!
My grade school couldn't get state approval today. The teachers were unpaid and lived communally. Two grades were taught in one classroom. There were no resources for science, music, physical education, or foreign languages except the Latin of the Mass and hymns. No playground facilities. The younger students were picked up by the single school bus; as soon as we were old enough, we rode our bikes to school, even in winter. A typical meal in the lunchroom might consist of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on white bread, a dish of corn, a dish of fruit cocktail, and a carton of milk. On Fridays we had fish sticks or ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
St. Jude Students Send Forth Rosaries, Prayers
A young boy in Haiti wears a rosary made and sent by students at the St. Jude the Apostle School Rosary Guild. (Photo provided by St. Jude School) ATLANTA— One bead, one Hail Mary. Another bead, another Hail Mary. Making and praying the rosary is a simple act, but in the Catholic faith, the prayers of the rosary to the Blessed Mother are profound. At St. Jude the Apostle School, the simple act of making rosaries and sending them to people who need the guidance of Mary the most has also been profound. The school’s Rosary Guild has been making a strong impact around the world for nine years. A religion and science teacher for 10 ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
