A man should know his way around basic tipping etiquette, but the rules can get complex – especially when you travel. Certain axioms apply when it comes to tipping, and here are some basic guidelines we’ve compiled for you. More importantly, we want to know for this week’s question: what rules do you use when it comes to tipping? Whether you’ve worked in a restaurant or not, you’re living in a recession and you’ve probably done a good job of watching your expenses. Why should tipping be different? Are Sales Quotas Counterproductive? | Sales Machine | BNET
In consultative selling, the rep is supposed to be a “trusted advisor” facilitating a customer buying decision.  If that’s so, shouldn’t we scrap the entire idea of sales quotas? I was recently discussing this issue with Jeffrey Seeley , the CEO of the sales training firm Carew International .  He explained that consultative selling is actually the opposite of peddling (or, as he calls it, “order taking”).  Many sales groups, in trying to make the transition to consultative selling, simply graft a consultative sales method atop a set of values that encourages peddling. Seeley believes there ... market research, surveys and trends

Sales Commission Structures In the Office Equipment Industry
Compensation is always a thorny issue in the effort to build and grow a sales organization. A compensation plan limiting opportunity aggravates personnel turnover, itself a costly problem. A stingy comp plan will drive off sales talent, positioning the organization for failure. An excessively generous plan will carve too deeply into profit, likewise a prescription for systemic collapse. Crafting a balanced compensation plan is therefore critical to near-term and long-term success. In this industry, average sales compensation as a function of salary and commission is about 9 to 10 percent of the gross revenue on a deal. So, if a ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Barack Obama has opened up a double-digit lead in the presidential race, with a growing number of voters saying they're now comfortable with the Democratic nominee's values, background and ability to serve as commander in chief."  Here's our write-up of the poll: "Obama's current lead is also fueled by his strength among independent voters (topping McCain 49 to 37 percent), suburban voters (53 to 41), Catholics (50 to 44) and white women (49 to 45). In early September, after the Republican National Convention, McCain was ahead with independents and Catholics, and ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

With the increasing levels of corporate governance, the CFO and the CEO are being held accountable for the effectiveness and efficiency of their control environment. There  should be  some minimum controls that have to be in place to ensure that key strategic, operational and financial risks of the company are managed. The areas for discussion are: ...
Compensation plan options for salespeople | LinkedIn Answers ...
I run a software training and consulting firm. In this economy we can hire very qualified commission-only sales people. Our need is in a division that might take a year or two to really start generating significant profits. We pay salespeople in other divisions a combination of a guaranteed base and a commission. The commission only kicks in once they've "earned" their base by generating enough gross profit to "cover" their base". I'm open to ideas on how to attract and keep salespeople during a challenging, but possibly high growth period. For example, we could pay a higher % of gross profit now, but we ...
