reading at the Decatur Public Library.  Mrs. Got Books and Lil’ Got Books went to check it out.  The author of the Artemis Fowl books receives rock star treatment and rolled up to the Library in his pimped out tour bus.  A separate van with Radio Disney staff was on hand to hand out prizes and direct games, etc. The reading included a video conference with the author’s son in Ireland via Mac laptop.  They exchanged greetings and knock knock jokes before the author began his presentation.  Rather than just read from the latest Artemis Fowl book, the author gave a multi-media presentation about his life and his books.  ...

I mean maybe it’s true for the narrowly sliced timeframe they’ve outlined but really? This isn’t a trend, it’s a blip. Want me to think otherwise? Release some actual numbers. Amazon makes more money off of ebooks than paper books. They’d like to keep doing that. So. I met with a potential bookstore investor the other day, someone who loves reading but doesn't work in the industry, and even he had heard about it: "Didn't someone show that fewer people are reading now?" he asked. And that is how most people have interpreted these results. ( Why is the survey NOT described "Seventy-five percent of Americans read a book ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

For a man who wanted nothing more than to be left alone, the hoopla around JD Salinger’s death would surely frustrate the reclusive author.  A local DJ here in Atlanta not known for his love of literature was breathless wondering aloud if now – finally! – unfinished manuscripts would be discovered in his home and published.  If only he had died sooner! Be There or Be Square for Aug. 26-Sept. 1
Can you believe it’s almost September already? It wasn’t that long ago that we were preparing for the summer lineup of the Ralph Hayes Toyota Block Party and hoping upon hope that some cooler weather would come our way. Now, it’s almost fall and we will have to worry about whether or not we are allowed to wear white after Labor Day. (I say yes, but most people I talk to say no.) With all the kids back in school, there are bound to be a few more options available to us in terms of entertainment. It might be as simple as a night of video games with other crazed, competitive nutters or a night out featuring everything from karaoke ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Berkeley Parents Network: Worried about Crib Bumper Pads
I recently read in a Kaiser childproofing handout that one should remove crib bumpers on cribs of children over 5 months old, so I took the bumpers off my 6-month old's crib. He promptly got stuck in the crib with his legs hanging out of the slats. I'd like to put the bumpers back on to avoid this, but assume that the recommendation on taking them off is SIDS-related. I'd be interested in hearing what other folks have done about crib bumpers, if others have had similar problems, & any other suggestions for avoid the leg-thru-the-slats problems. It is my understanding that one is advised to remove crib bumpers ...

What are the lyrics to 'Baby Got Book'? - Yahoo! Answers
There's a parody of Sir Mix-A-Lot's 'Baby Got Back' called 'Baby Got Book' written by Pastor Dan Smith (I think). Anyway, the video's all over YouTube but I'm at work and can't access it and I can't find the darn lyrics online. If anyone knows the lyrics to the parodied version I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
