(or computing science) is the study and the science of the theoretical foundations of information and computation and their implementation and application in computer systems. Computing Curricula 2005 1 defined computing: In a general way, we can define computing to mean any goal-oriented activity requiring, benefiting from, or creating computers. Thus, computing includes designing and building hardware and software systems for a wide range of purposes; processing, structuring, and managing various kinds of information; doing scientific studies using computers; making computer systems behave intelligently; creating and using ...

Tools for Building Tutors, and Tutors for Computing Education ...
I took a workshop this morning on building intelligent tutoring systems.  That’s surprising if you knew me even 10 years ago, when I thought that intelligent tutoring systems were an interesting technology but a bad educational idea. I thought that tutors were the fancy worksheets that I thought deadened education and taught only the kinds of things that weren’t worth teaching.  Then I spent the last eight years trying to figure out how to teach computing to people who do want to learn about computing but don’t want to become professional software developers (i.e,, Media Computation ). I’ve come to ... market research, surveys and trends
Nine projects funded in £10 million Insect Pollinators Initiative ...
The Insect Pollinators Initiative has announced £10 million of funding for nine projects investigating the decline of honeybees and other pollinating insects in recent years. These projects will explore the causes and consequences of threats to these insect populations. The announcement coincides with National Insect Week, and the aim of the Initiative is to inform mitigation strategies that will ensure that the pollination of agricultural and horticultural crops is protected and biodiversity in natural ecosystems is maintained. Insects pollinate around a third of the agricultural crops grown globally and the total loss of ... market research, surveys and trends

The Seattle Times: Tech Tracks
Sony isn't saying when its new PlayStation 3 console will go on sale in the United States, but Costco wasn't so bashful. The Issaquah-based retailer's Web site on Tuesday said the highly anticipated console will be available in November 2006. Retailers tend to guess when hot video game products will hit the shelves, but Costco moves a lot of Sony entertainment products so perhaps it has an early line on the PS3. Costco listed the console specs and promotional information apparently provided by Sony. It didn't list a price and it wasn't taking pre-orders yet, as it did with Microsoft's Xbox 360. ... industry trends, business articles and survey research

Diamonds and the holy grail of quantum computing
Since Richard Feynman's first envisioned the quantum computer in 1982, there have been many studies of potential candidates -- computers that use quantum bits, or qubits, capable of holding an more than one value at a time and computing at speeds far beyond existing silicon-based machines for certain problems. Most of these candidate systems, such as atoms and semiconducting quantum dots, work for quantum computing, but only at very low temperatures. Now a team of researchers from the Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the ... market trends, news research and surveys resources
Meteorologist's weather technology aids soldiers, civilians
University Park, Pa. -- From battlefields to civilian settings, David Stauffer’s combination of weather and technology saves lives. Stauffer, a senior research associate and associate professor of meteorology at Penn State , and his research team helped develop the Meteorological Measuring Set – Profiler (MMS-P). The Profiler is an automated computerized weather forecast system that runs in the back of specially equipped Humvees to provide detailed "nowcast" information to the Army. Another version of this system has been used to predict the spread of hazards in the air during major civilian events such as Super ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

I'm interested in Information Technology how to I get started ...
Its not clear what you are doing currently. Assuming that you are about to enter college, the first thing you need to do is get a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (B.E, B.Tech, MCA, etc.) or a related field which will help you get familiar with different aspects related to IT and computing. Once you are through college you will be quite familiar with what skillsets are required to take up a career in IT. 3 months ago 100% 1 Vote There are currently no comments for this question. * You must be logged into Answers to add comments.
