the truth about venture capital and angel investing is …
Last week, I was on a panel with other investors discussing the “do’s” and “don’ts” of angel and venture capital investing some one from the audience fired a series of intriguing compounded questions ” why are the VC’s so illusive?, why don’t they have all their information available? Why don’t they disclose how they come up with their valuations? Why are the selection criteria’s so undefined????” All valid questions and valid statements – the event made me think that entrepreneurs view of the equity investment community is entirely different than that ... market research, surveys and trends
the best blog posts on venture capital
I’ve been thinking for a while about writing some posts explaining venture capital. While I have a lot of friends who are serial entrepreneurs and venture capitalists, one of the my realizations in the brief time I spent in the industry was how poorly understood it is by 99% of people. Well, it looks like Marc Andreesen beat me to it.  His posts contain roughly 90% of what I was going to say. He has three of them: Marc describes his experience with venture capital as follows: My experience with venture capital includes: being the cofounder of two VC-backed startups that later went public (Kleiner Perkins-backed Netscape ... market research, surveys and trends

Walker Commercial Funding - Brian Walker's take on the market
Weak projects, no matter how great they appear, can turn a funder off if any of the following conditions are present: 1. The project has a funding deadline - a funder would rather take a project that will work if they have to wait for funding. Funders frown on projects that have a deadline. For example, "If I'm not funded in 5 weeks, I'll lose the property." We as intermediaries would never accept a project like this when there are hundreds more that won't be calling us every day and giving us guilt trips for their project not being funded. There are many reasons a project could ... industry trends, business articles and survey research
Why Bill Gates is embracing clean tech
's chairman and former CEO, Bill Gates, are pushing the U.S. to dramatically increase spending for clean energy technology. The IT links to clean technology get stronger by the day, and if the push in Washington by Gates and venture capitalist John Doerr to get the federal government to triple its research and development spending succeeds, Silicon Valley is certain to benefit. One person who illustrates the multidimensional connections among IT, federal funding and clean tech is Gene Wang, CEO of People Power Co. Wang's 18-month-old company has developed what it calls an Open Source Home Area Network (OSHAN) that ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

I've got a meeting with venture capital people on Friday, help ...
Things are proceeding well, albeit a bit more slowly than my initial rather optimistic estimates. Recently, a local venture capital firm contacted me about the project and I've got a meeting with them on Friday. Now, I've got a business plan, and I think it's a pretty good one, but I'm not sure what they'll be expecting or looking for. Anyone have experience with getting a tech startup off the ground with VC funding? Like I say, I've think I've got the business model down, and I'd rather not discuss those details at this juncture, as this has been a pretty high-profile project so far. ...
