of organic materials and/or substances. Incineration and other high temperature waste treatment systems are described as " thermal treatment ". Incineration of waste materials converts the waste into incinerator bottom ash , flue gases , particulates , and heat , which can in turn be used to generate electric power . The flue gases are cleaned of pollutants before they are dispersed in the atmosphere . Incineration with energy recovery is one of several waste-to-energy (WtE) technologies such as gasification , Plasma arc gasification , pyrolysis and anaerobic digestion . Incineration may also be implemented without ...
Under a cloak of darkness, a tricycle driver chugs along Lacson St. at two o’clock in the morning with his load of garbage. He stops in a dark area and dumps the trash by the roadside. This story is real. Worse, it has become habit. It has become culture.  Solid Waste Management (SWM) should be a way of life. But in a society where hygiene seems not part of daily vocabulary, SWM has to be taught as a discipline. Whose job is it to implement SWM, the city or the barangay’s?  Republic Act 9003, the legal bible of SWM in the country, clarifies that the barangays have a critical role to play in the ... market research, surveys and trends

City Hall Hustle: Play It Again, MRF
debate is itself more recycled than a toothbrush reassembled from Chinese drywall – and dueling resolutions regarding the selection of the city's next recycler may make the process just as toxic. A little background: Unhappy with their current recycling contract with Greenstar North America (aka Mid-America Recycling), City Council made it a priority for Austin to get its own MRF, a way station for sorting and expediting recyclables. Toward the end of last year, as part of a conservation-based realignment of Solid Waste Services , the city issued a request for MRF proposals. What followed was perhaps the most garbled ... market trends, news research and surveys resources

Solid Waste Management: Germany
The issue of waste management is of concern in Germany as it is in many places. In an attempt to minimize the quantity of solid waste, Germany placed an ordinance on packaging in 1991. This ordinance placed the responsibility to minimize waste on the manufacturers. By requiring manufacturers to take back the packaging of their goods and reuse or recycle it, the ordinance would work towards reductions in solid waste. The green dot system is a way to facilitate the industries' compliance with German regulations concerning waste management. Two goals were set: one for gathering waste and the other for separating. Google Answers: restrictions on use of polythene bags
Hello, where4-ga! There is a good deal of action taken by countries around the world concerning the use of polythene bags. Amazingly, countries like Bangladesh are far ahead of the more industrialized countries when it comes to taking action! I have compiled quite a bit of information from different countries. However, most of it comes in very small snippets from short article references here and there. Some articles refer to pending legislation, but they may be three or four years old, and there is no further information readily available. I hope, however, that the following references provide a good overview of the ...
Where can I turn if my landlord refuses to fix a noise problem and ...
I have tried talking to the landlord about this and the only action I get is usually a promise that they will talk to this other tenant, but as far as I can tell they haven’t and nothing is being done about it. The problem just continues. The landlord from what I can tell can’t give a hoot about it. He doesn’t live here. He just wants to collect rent. I do have my rights and the rules are in the lease that I signed, and I assume everyone else signed in the building. I am kinda just at a stuck point. Complaining to the land lord isn’t doing any good. Should I escalate this issue and find a lawyer and sue my landlord for “forcing ...
